Univ. of Florida: "Public Ivy"?

…AND what he’s curious about hahahahaha

It seems that" Public Ivy" is a term coined 24 years ago by Richard Moll in his 1985 book Public Ivies. ;)

The original eight Public Ivies list by Moll (1985):

College of William & Mary (Williamsburg, Virginia)
Miami University (Oxford, Ohio)
University of California (all campuses)
University of Michigan (Ann Arbor)
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
University of Texas at Austin
University of Vermont (Burlington)
University of Virginia (Charlottesville

“University of California (all campuses)”

Moll was an admissions officer at UC- Santa Cruz…the fact that he lists ALL campuses of the UC system is completely shocking…hahahahaha

[Public Ivy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Public Ivy - Wikipedia)

UVM is probably happy with that list…

Just because someone doesn’t think as highly of Florida as its students and alums doesn’t mean that person has an agenda against the school.

If the Gators are going to dish it out, they should be able to take it too.

So, you’re assuming that non UF students and alumni don’t think as highly as the studfents and alumni? Shurely there must be SOME who look past the northern and western bias to see the merits of UF being a great school. Not everyone allows ingrained bias to cloud reason :)

the name of this thread is funny lol

It always amazes me that some of the biggest critics of “Southern” publics come from states with such highly touted and venerable institutions such as:

U-Mass
Delloware
Rutgers, NJ State
UCON
and the VERY prestiges SUNY system- where as an alumni who lives out of state (me), when someone asks you where you went to college, you have to start the conversation with a definition of what SUNY is and then how, even though they all have the same name, they are actually different schools. Ya, Great job at marketing yourself, Albany. All of the above have very good schools within their systems (I got a great education at SUNY Oswego), but for someone from one of these states to cast aspersions at the Florida State University system is just silly. These people should look in their own backyard first.

Oh, and the kicker is that all of the states with the universities above above have much higher taxes AND tuition than Florida, yet Florida manages to have not 1 but two great flagships (UF, FSU) and two research 1 universities (UF, USF).

Soccer isn’t a real sport hahahaha

I have learned a lot on cc today in the search for ideas for my D’s college list.

I learned that Soccer is not a real sport and that Duke is not a real college. Good grief, my life is an illusion.

I am a MOM though…  :)

Ya, it’s not like soccer is the most played/watched sport worldwide right?

UF is the best college in the world. It’s great to be a Florida Gator.

Go Gators!

"rogracer: my bet is that curiouslee was rejected by Florida and is now a frustrated, self-loathing Seminole. That said, having gone to Harvard and Florida, I view this “Ivy” thing as an innocent, harmless distraction for some folks. "

wait, isn’t UF the “Harvard of the South”? lmao. You should have stayed at UF the whole time since both schools are equally prestigious.

“Ya, it’s not like soccer is the most played/watched sport worldwide right?”

Right, because we all know the biggest is always the best. By your logic, Florida is the third most attended school in the US therefore, it MUST be a great school!

GO GATORS

At least i have some logic, rofl? all you did was say SOCCER ISNT A REAL SPORT HA-HA-HE-HE. Grow up or stop posting on this forum, thanks.

It’s no secret that soccer is the most popular sport globally. So when you say it’s not “a real sport” I get the impression you are either jealous that you suck at it, lack any athletic ability at all and thus result to putting it down, are overwhelmingly insecure, or are just a mean person. It’s probably all four.

Psssh, field fairies.

“It’s no secret that soccer is the most popular sport globally. So when you say it’s not “a real sport” I get the impression you are either jealous that you suck at it, lack any athletic ability”.

No athaletic ability…oddly, I was pretty good at soccer in college. I’'m not mean, just responding to your post, laughing at my school!

“my bet is that curiouslee was rejected by Florida and is now a frustrated, self-loathing Seminole.”

harvardgator:

Yes, clearly anyone who criticizes UF must have gone to a rival school.

That means most CC posters must have gone to FSU, Miami, etc.

Didn’t study too hard at Harvard, huh? That’d explain the road from Cambridge to Gainesville!

Yes, the topic of this thread is laughable. Many others seem to agree with me here.

Isn’t UF in the “South”? Therefore, wouldn’t it be a southern school? If so, it has to be bad. Everyone knows that southern schools are bad.
