read on UMD’s website regarding suspension of certain projects. Anyone know which projects they are putting on hold? curious since I am waiting to see if I am admitted and I remember at the tour they spoke a lot of new projects that would be completed by 2015.
While I can’t say with any certainty and have no insight, I personally would imagine the first constructions projects to be suspended would be the housing expansion plans…they had a lot of very ambitious housing upgrades in the works and I would think they can go “on hold” for a bit. I wouldn’t think that they would suspend projects that are a result of donations for educational buildings/centers…
@maryversity - do you know if this will cut merit $ for incoming class (HS class of 2015)?
This is the only info that has been posted at this point http://www.president.umd.edu/statements/campus_message011615.cfm
President Loh is a good man and I trust he will handle the situation as best he can so that we all feel as little impact as possible.
@collegenj, where exactly did you “read on UMD’s website regarding suspension of certain projects”…? I have not heard anything about this nor seen any news posted about this…where did you see this? FYI, my response to you was just speculation because I have not heard that …
in the article you put in your post
Savings from the recently implemented hiring freeze on faculty and staff positions and suspension of construction renovation projects will be $3M, equal to 19% of the cut
Even with this news, I still hope I am accepted. Its still my first choice!!
Oh, ha ha, I totally missed that because I zoomed in on the tuition hike (which, to my relief, is actually quite modest considering what it could have been!). So, based on the wording of “renovation” I am definitely thinking I am right about it relating to housing projects…
I wonder if this is only the beginning with the new governor about to take office.
