Univ. of Memphis or Univ. of Mississippi Info??

Does anyone have any info. on the programs at either Ole Miss or Univ. of Memphis?

My son is a freshman at U Memphis and I posted quite a bit about the program last year. Our opinion a year later is even better as there are just a ton of acting and theater opportunities around the city and anyone looking for talent comes to the theater department because the instructors have strong ties to the regional companies in and around Memphis.
There is also a great sense of community within the department.
Adjusting to life in Memphis was difficult for my son - and I don’t want to dismiss that for other families outside the Region…so like all programs there are tradeoffs/pros and cons…but he is happy there.
Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions
I know Miss just waived all out of state tuition - so that school might very well be a bargain for those interested…

Don’t know if you got my PM. I have not heard that Ole Miss would waive out of state tuition??? The website still talks about out of state tuition. Thanks for all the info. about Memphis. Sounds like your S is really happy and getting good training.

Here is the link to the Miss tuition story…It says they are allowed to waive OOS tuition based on program and recruitment needs - and that started in fall, 2012. So my guess some of this hasn’t filtered thru to the main flagship campus yet…but certainly call and ask.
Good Luck

I’m currently a freshman at Ole Miss planning to jury into the BFA musical theatre degree! Even without it waived for me this year, OOS tuition is still very low compared to other schools, and as long as you have a 3.0 GPA and a good ACT score you have some type of merit scholarship.
I love our department. It’s really close-knit and every one really cares about each other. We also added a new professor to the musical theatre department who I absolutely adore along with the other faculty. Personally, because both of my parents went to University of Georgia and I grew going to football games there and hearing their stories about being in greek life, I feel lucky that I’m able to get great training along with having part of the college experience that I wanted growing up. That doesn’t mean if you’re not into that that you wouldn’t enjoy campus life though! Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
