Univ of Rochester to Graduate Schools?

Hi, I'm a current Junior in high school and am interested in the Univ of Rochester.

I plan to follow the pre-med track and eventually attend an ivy league level medical school.

Is anyone aware of the percentages/rates of Univ of Rochester graduates that end up into prestigious medical schools? (and why?)

If anyone could provide any information regarding the transition from Univ of Rochester to such a graduate school, it would be fantastic!

Thank you! :)

First of all, it would be best not to plan too early on which medical schools you’ll be applying to because you have no clue as to whether or not you’ll be competitive when the time comes.

All US allopathic medical schools are excellent schools and they all teach the same exact curriculum. (Because the students all have to pass the same USMLE at the end of their 2nd year.)

Admission to any US medical school is extremely competitive with over 45,000 students applying or about 18,000 seats. In 2010, the average matriculant had 3.66 GPA and 31 MCAT–that is substantially higher than just 3 years ago.

If you’re really interested about UR’s professional school success rate–go here:

and here:

The road to medical school is a long and often grueling one. It’s not just grades and MCAT scores, though those are important. It’s also research, volunteerism, community service, leadership, excellent communication skills and strong people skills too. You have the opportunities to do all of those at UR.

(BTW, medical school is PROFESSIONAL school, not graduate school. Graduate school is something else entirely.)

You’ll likely need a near-perfect GPA (3.95+), super high MCAT score, and exceptional research experience. A few people at U of R have achieved this, and they have landed at the Hopkins/Harvard echelon of Medical Schools.

This is possible. But maybe you should have more realistic expectations. Otherwise, you may be disappointed.
