Univ Prestige-Graduation Salary

Why does people craze about univ prestige (in top tier level) if the graduation salary income between say Harvey Mudd and MIT is about the same?

No one is even trying to answer this question? Disappointing!

Both MIT and Harvey Mudd are prestigious to anyone who knows anything about top technical schools.

Because prestige is made up and competency is real.

Once you go Mudder you never consider another.

How about Ross Hulman Institute of Technology?

Rose Hulman is actually really good. I am working at an REU in Florida this summer and there is a Rose Hulman student here with me. He is quite bright and knows his stuff. I recommend Rose Hulman highly.

Both S1 and S2 were impressed by Rose. For both of them, however, the location and the ratio were huge negative factors. Others have and will choose differently.

Stevedad, what do you mean by ratio? Girls to boys?

Would anyone comment on the rate of acceptance at Rose? I mean it is high but they produce highly skilled engineers and the degree from Rose is highly marketable.

IAYM,

Yes, the ratio of boys/girls was one of the negatives about Rose Hulman for my two sons. (Mudd has better ratio, and also benefits from the Consortium.) Rose's ratio as of 10/07 was 1442M to 374F.

Rose is indeed relatively easy to get into, both on percentage accepted and relative SAT/ACT scores, particularly given its reputation and the quality of its graduates. { My personal belief (based on S1 and S2) is that Terre Haute can be a negative when compared to Cambridge MA, Claremont, and/or Houston. OTOH, one of S2's HS classmates will be a freshman at Rose this year--unlike S2, he thought Rose/Terre Haute was a more attractive place for college than Rice/Houston}

The acceptance stats for the freshmen enrolled at Rose in Oct. 07 were

Total first-time, first-year (freshman) men who applied 2399__
Total first-time, first-year (freshman) women who applied 689_
Total first-time, first-year (freshman) men who were admitted 1660_
