Just wondering:

Will I be at a great loss if I do not take UNIV100 this semester? Because my schedule conflicts in every way if I want to take UNIV100, unless I take Math140 at 8AM...

I'm taking UNIV100

well..it would be kind of pointless to take it next semester because u'll be comfortable in the college environment and all that. univ100 is meant to help accelerate that process...in fact, i dont even know if u can take it next semester.

as for it being a great loss..i doubt it. but then again i'm just a freshman also.

i took some community college classes through my high school and a similar class was required. I thought it was a waste of time. It talked about time management and stuff like that. Easy A but a waste of time.

Why would you want to waste credits and TIME on a silly class that does not count for anything? Most freshmen do NOT take this class. I personally know only 1 person who took it and they skipped because it was useless. Everyone needs time to adjust to college, but there are RAs, Advisors, other staff, and other students who can all help. You will be fine without this class. Don't worry about it.

i know atleast 8 people that are signed up for it this year. i think it is stupid. i don't know why anyone would put themselves through that hell. The class that was offered by the community college was boring and people didn't want to go even though it was only 45 minutes a week. I can definately see everyone skipping that class.

I don't think i learned anything in the class i took. I mean if you think this will help you adjust then i guess it is worth it but i am not going to learn time management skills by reading about them.

I'm taking UNIV101 because it's a free two credits. If there were any of classes I wanted to take, I would opt out instantly, but everything I want to take is full or has horrible times (8 AM) so I said, a free 2 credits, why not.

For example, I wanted to take Bowling or Basketball or both, but they are both all filled, so I will simply wait until next semester. I'm not trying to graduate in 7 semesters so I don't give a ****, it's an elective to me and it allows me to have no classes on friday.

So, THAT's why some people take it.

Testudo,

Unless you have a lot of credits, more than likely you will not be able to register for those classes until you almost have junior standing. The registration dates are set by the # of credits you have.

Since UNIV100 isn't required, I'd say don't bother taking it. (Anyone in Honors--HONR100 is a required course to get your Honors citation, so you're supposed to take that). But like someone else said, it IS a free 2 credits and you're pretty much guaranteed an A. A 2-credit A won't up your GPA that much, but every little bit helps. It's really up to you.
