Universities on the ocean

Ok.... for the next 4 years of my life i really want to be close to the ocean....

So basically what are some of the best colleges that are right on the ocean..... id say within 5 miles

Thanks so Much

Well, UChicago basically boarders an "inland sea," does that count? :)

Haha.. i guess lol
Kinda looking for OCEAN though

But thanks for the suggestion idad...

University of Alaska

chillin-

You spend much of your time on the Notre Dame thread stating how your entire life you have known you want to go there and it is by far your number one choice. Your room at home is decked out in head-to-toe ND stuff.

Are they planning on moving the campus to CA or are you just jerking the parents chains here?

Indiana on the Ocean?

That is a very broad criteria and it helps to add in more criteria and then "near the ocean".

The list is so long without other preferences being mentioned.
For starters...
UC Santa Barbara
UC San Diego
UCLA
USC
University of Miami
Connecticut College
Bates
Endicott College
Chapman University
Occidental College
Tulane
University of Hawaii
Bowdoin College
Boston College
Boston University
Harvard
Yale
Brown
Tufts
Brandeis
MIT
Northeastern
Wellesley
Hofstra
Fairfield Univ.
University of Puget Sound
University of Richmond
University of Delaware
University of Charleston

University of Rhode Island's main campus is a few miles from the beach, and a nearby auxiliary campus is a few hundred yards away.

University of California at Santa Cruz is about 2 miles up a canyon from the beach.

Pepperdine is a few hundred yards up the canyon from the Malibu beach.

Don't forget the Naval Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy and the Coast Guard Academy.
And SUNY Stony Brook.
Roger Williams.
Salve Regina -- for absolute gorgeous beach that is literally ON the ocean.
Anne Arundel Community College ... in Annapolis (just in case you like Annapolis and don't want to be at the Naval Academy!)

Western Washington University (WWU) is right on Bellingham Bay, Puget Sound, which leads to the Pacific Ocean. No surf in Bellingham, but a great water view!

I just knew SOMEONE would find a way to recommend U Chicago on here...

Northwestern is right on Lake Michigain, which technically isn't an Ocean, but it's enough like one.

Pepperdine overlooks Malibu.

concur that Lake Michigan is more ocean-like than some others. "rolleyes:

UNC-Wilmington

Some schools offer a semester at sea. That's about as close as you can get.

All the Boston area schools listed above (Northeastern, BC, BU, MIT, Wellesley, Tufts) are not within 5 miles of a beach, although technically speaking it is probably true that Northeastern and BU are within 5 miles of the ocean (just that the ocean would be bordering the airport, parking lots, and mostly other user-unfriendly areas).

Well, if you are willing to go with "near" the ocean, ala soozievt's list, there are tons of schools to consider. But if you want to be within 5 miles, you'd be disappointed with several schools on her list. As fendrock says, those Boston area schools (one of which I went to ;) ), don't qualify in my mind as near the ocean. Bates? I don't think so.

Some I have heard of or know of:
Roger Williams U, Rhode Island
University of California at Santa Barbara
University of California at Santa Cruz
University of California at San Diego
College of the Atlantic, Bar Harbor, Maine

Wow your nice.... not
Im just realistic because I know I'll prob. not be admitted to ND.. so I'm looking for alternatives

Thanks for all the suggestions

Do they surf on Lake Michigan? If not, it's not enough like an ocean.

College of the Atlantic, in Maine. Literally on a rocky coastline.

Also many of the Florida schools.
