Universities with Design/Music

Hey everyone,

I'm currently a freshman at Johns Hopkins, and while I'm taking continuing study courses at MICA and piano lessons at Peabody, I really want to go to a top school where I could actually major in or minor in both. So far I've only found NYU/USC/UCLA

It's nice being able to take credits at MICA/Peabody, but I want art/music to be my concentrations, not something I dabble in on the side.

Anyone with other places they can think of ??

I'd appreciate it greatly as transfer application deadlines are coming up rapidly (some, such as UCLA have already passed ... )

Most top schools with art and music have programs that are so demanding and intensive that you will not be able to double major in both areas. Frankly, I think you are currently geting the best of all worlds.

With the above noted, you might want to check out University of Cincinnati, which has very strong programs in applied area as part of their School of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning and with their equally reknown Conservatory of Music. You would probably have to be admitted to each school individually to even home of majoring or minoring in these schools.

Carnegie Mellon has very decent program in both music and art. Again, you have to be admitted into both the schools of music and art.

UCLA would also be a good choice.

You might also investigate Wash U St. Louis.

Good luck.
