Hi -
I'm looking for suggestions of colleges which have strong programes in music (specifically music performance, even more specifically cello performance) and studio art, or painting, pretty much just art in general. My ideal school would have a strong music program, but not TOO strong (so don't say Oberlin, please).
I would also like a school with strong academics, too. I have aprox. a 3.8 unweighted GPA and scored a 30 on the ACT, and have a lot of music-related extracurriculars if anyone cares. :)

Other random things:
Ideal size: .. 2000 - 8000ish people. ... so pretty smallish.
Not RIGHT in a huge city... but this one is a little negligable.
Strong English/literature programs also a plus!
Geographically anywhere. I'll do the narrowing down later...

So, any suggestions? (hope I didn't forget anything)

Yale, but I hear it's kind of hard to get into.

Penn has a robust fine arts program (my fine arts friend chose it over yale), but at 9700 undergrads it might be a tad biggish for you. Oh, and it's also kind of hard to get into...

I don't know about its studio art program, but Tufts has wonderful academics and a strong music scene as well. Boston suburb but not in the middle of the city itself. Are you looking for a performance major or focusing more on academics? That makes a difference (most performance majors will require an audition as part of the application process).

you might get more suggestions if you post on the music majors board....

Both Bard and Lawrence have a stong music programs. Both are smallish, and not as hard to get into as most of the above colleges. I believe that Bard also has a well known English program. You should also post your question on the Music Majors forum as well. There are lots of very knowledgable music parents on that site just waiting to help budding musicians find the right colleges.
