@thessaly1 Thank you! I hope your son is successful in his college search!
How are you guys picking your roommates? I’ve read online that people picked roommate stuff at accepted students day but idk? Thoughts?
My son was hoping for an online forum. @biomedical2023 do you know when housing becomes available to make a deposit? What dorm are you thinking? Ellicott seems nicer but Governors is closer to classrooms.
Governors and Ellicott are about the same distance to the academic spine. The nice thing about Ellicott is that it’s like a ‘city within a city’ atmosphere. Folks won’t feel trapped in a single isolated dorm complex. In addition, buses to the academic spine run through the Ellicott tunnel. I don’t recall that ever happening for Governors - you will have to walk. This feature is great especially with the winter weather, snow, and rain.
@thessaly1 I think it becomes available after February 1st. I’m thinking about ellicot complex.
@spqr70nj Governers is MUCH closer to the “spine”. My daughter is currently a freshman and living there now. She only has to cross the street and then can get inside and get to anywhere on the spine through buildings/tunnels. Governers is on the bus run- buses stop out front. She loves Governers and wishes she could live there next year.
Those of you accepted into engineering…anyone confirmed for UB? Where else did you all decide to go?
@thessaly1 Hey there. My son was accepted to UBuffalo, NJIT, West Virginia, Penn State so far direct into their engineering schools. Waiting to hear from Rutgers (direct) and Maryland this week. He also had applied to Virginia Tech, Syracuse and Rensselaer but those decisions won’t be until after March 1st. Right now he loved Penn State’s program.
There’s a Facebook group for students interested in roommates. It’s a closed group that may need some verification.
I got in for chemical engineering! 1320 sat. 3.7uw/3.91w gpa.
@BetaBaggins Congrats!! Are you going to accept? Where else are you thinking?
@spqr70nj My son just got into Rutgers engineering yesterday. Still waiting on VT. I think Ruthers probably has a better engineering program, as does Udel where he was also accepted, but he really wants UB.
@thessaly1 thank you:) I’m not sure yet. I also was accepted to gmu, stony brook, purdue(sadly not for engineering though so I probably won’t be going there.) I’m still waiting on Virginia tech, udel, pitt, Drexel, uw Madison, university of Minnesota, university of Maryland, penn state, and Colorado School of Mines (yes I applied to a lot of school)
In a different thread someone posted their child had received the Provost and Pride of NY scholarships has anyone else heard anything or received them?
@futurenursemom1 nope. Wasn’t there a specific deadline you had to meet in order to be considered for merit scholarships? I don’t think I met it sadly
Not sure about that. My daughter applied EA and was accepted in November. We are waiting to hear about academic scholarships. If you look at posts from last year people started to hear last year around this time.
My daughter received the letter in the mail today. Pride of NY and Provost totalling 5000.
@mitchey Has your daughter compared Governors to Ellicott in relation to amenities? Are there restaurants there? How are the laundry facilities? Just found out the engineering LLC is being moved to Governors, so where he was looking at Ellicott now he may be in Governors. Are the rooms the same size? Provide as much info as you can. Thank you!
@futurenursemom1 Congrats, that’s a good amount! I called the office yesterday. They said the mails for Pride of NY and Provost get sent out starting this week until March.
Any Pride of NJ awards? Lol
