@HankCT Definitely check out UB if you can. I think you will be impressed. We’re in Central Jersey near the shore so I understand distance is a factor (7 hours for us as well). At first the school may seem big compared to Binghamton, but it offers many opportunities. Throughout this admissions process I never pushed the school on my son - wanting him to pick and choose the schools that align with what he wants to pursue. Although he was also accepted to Penn State and Rutgers, their admission processes dragged on and on, and really turned folks off - including us. There is no reason for it because at the end of the day it is all mostly based on GPA/Standardized Tests scores.
Waiting to hear applied RD, in state, hope to hear soon!
@Sdka2001 - when did you submit your application? My daughter submitted January 2nd and was notified of her acceptance on January 15th.
@spqr70nj I just called UB Financial Aid. They said info would be MAILED to your home address by mid-March. (Seems kinda late to me, but whatevs - just show me the money!!!)
Thanks for the update @tlg520 They never responded back to my email.
Has anyone that was deferred and needed mid year grades hear yet? Mid year grades have been in for weeks, so getting nervous.
Daughter submitted mid year grades and is still waiting, we called the admissions office last week and were told we would hear from UB in a couple weeks. Very nerve racking
UB Financial Aid emailed me back this morning and confirmed mid-March aid notification letters going out to accepted students.
I am trying to sign in to the MyUB portal, anyone know where can I find my UB person number.
I applied on December as rd, still didn’t hear anything yet, I sent an email to buffalo but they just said that they received my application and will be able to review soon. Can somebody tell me why does it take so long? even some people who applied on February got the acceptance letters two weeks later.
@ljr650463 The page when you sign in to see your acceptance has your UB person number.
@EENYMum The revisit to U Buffalo for my DD made her feel better about the size. We really thought she’d wind up at a smaller college. Oneonta is still in a tie/close second for her. Dorming isn’t a worry for dd anywhere as she’s a longtime sleep away camp kid and feels she can handle it. And she wants to get her DPT, either at Buffalo or maybe in Scotland at Robert Gordon U. Dd’s main concern with U Buffalo is being forced into the Exercise Science major, as she was hoping to do a Human Biology / Physical Anthropology major. Mostly for her interests but also on the outside chance she needs to launch into employment with just her Bachelor’s (unlikely but still)
@EENYMum I glossed over it a bit, but I’ll also say this: Dd revisited I Buffalo with a friend and her mom. The mom has a colleague with a current student who was willing to sit down with the girls. Nice kid who made our girls feel better about the size and what it’s like to find your own smaller circle.
@spqr70nj - I also should add that you need to check in your/your student’s portal to see if anything else is required. I had to submit a copy of our 2017 tax return. It listed a due date of 3/7, so you should check that ASAP.
@whampoa123 - it likely depends on your intended major. They can only admit so many to each major!
@ljr650463 - it’s also on the hard copy of your acceptance letter that you should receive in the mail.
Thanks, mine was blank in that spot, so i will call admissions. Thanks so much! Go Bulls.
I’m feeling really anxious lately as I have yet to hear back from UB. I applied back in November as a chemistry major with a 3.0 and 1180 SAT. However, my mid-year report was requested. I got a 90 my first semester ( converts to a 3.5 or so and is the highest I ever got) and sent that in. Curious to know what my chances are in your guys’ opinions. UB is my top choice and I’d absolutely love to go there. Thanks in advance.
@Brad101 Hey there - just going off of prep scholar, they say the average SAT there is 1225, and the average GPA is 3.6. With an 1180 and a 3.0, they predict a 15% chance of getting in. With a 3.25 it jumps up to 25%. I would say the odds are not great, but a number of factors could influence things so who knows? Best of luck!
@HankCT Thanks for the comment but I would like to point out how inaccurate prepscholar is. They told me that I had about a 15-20% chance of getting into hofstra but I got in and got a few scholarships. They also told me I had a 25% chance of getting into Oswego but I got in and people with lower stats than me got in. They say Hofstra and UBuffalo have the same gpa average as NYU (a 3.6) and SUNY oswego has a 3.5 average. That doesn’t seem to make sense.
