Hello,

I was just wondering how my university is regarded internationaly. I went to University College Dublin. Have you heard of it?

As far as I know It has one of the best Business Schools in Europe and many famous alumni including James Joyce, A few world leaders and many Prime Ministers & Presidents of Ireland. It also has the only veterinary program in Ireland.

Would it be as well known as Trinity College Dublin?

Haven't heard of both...

I have heard about Trinity College Dublin

I believe not as known as Trinity College Dublin. I have read about it only in Joyce's biography for my lit class. However Trinity College Dublin has some high regarded alumnae too such as Samuel Becket.

Almost no one in the US has heard of UCD. Many more people have heard of Trinity.

I think Trinity College Dublin is much more well known in the USA. We Americans are a bit confused by the apparent redundancy of some of institutions' names in the UK and Ireland. Since "university" and "college" are almost synonymous here, we almost can't comprehend or remember the places that have both words in their name (University College London, University College Dublin, etc.).

Some of us are also a bit baffled by the habit of giving your houses names. What's up with that?
