Is anyone in this program? How do you like it so far?
Just curious about other people's experiences.

My D is in it loves it

I asked my D. She said there are pros and cons, depending on which school you are in. She likes the honors program and feels it has some really good professors and interesting classes. She also likes the little perks - for example they had some kind of reception recently with good food, usually available hot chocolate and a good place to study during finals. The con can be the required classes the first two years. She would have (AP) tested out of her science requirement, but ended up in 2 semesters of the freshman honors science class. I think she would have preferred not to take that one and do something more interesting to her instead. Overall she is happy with it and is glad she did honors.

My S is interested in the Honors Program also, but is concerned how it will meld with the Elliott School. It looks like he would have to take 17credits per semester??? 2 year-long 4 redit honors GER’s (8 Credits), and 3 other classes also(9 credits). Seems like a lot!

Also, there is no “profile” for accepted students in the GW Honor Program like other schools. It would be interesting to see what GPA/SAT’s etc are needed.

Appreciate any comments.

The intro to Intl affairs required of freshmen in Elliott is also 4 credits, so one semester would be 18, which is OK for honors students (as in no extra charges for the extra credit)

My D wanted to take more credits but couldnt get the classes being a freshman. She is fine is working hard. and she came from a rigorous HS. Asked her how she liked honors she was like DUh so I gues s that answers that. You need to apply for honors when you apply as you cannot apply later. At least that was how it was last year.

since GWU has an honors program doesn’t that say the rest of the school is mediocre? maybe that’s poorly worded. i’m just wondering why schools like Georgetown don’t have an honors program. do less selective schools have honors programs, that’s what i’m trying to ask.
