Does Utah STILL ban alcohol and only allow tea and coffee XD?
^To be fair, LDS students are banned from drinking tea and coffee too, so this passes for risky behavior.
@Lstrom
A good option if USC isn’t the only school that’d offer enough scholarships. I found only very few schools that had enough scholarships for international transfers. I’m not sure if I’d be able to find a school where costs would be similar to SUU’s costs.
@MYOS1634
Okay I’ll do some research on that.
@paul2752
As far as I know BYU doesn’t even allow coffee, but in Utah you’re free to drink.
Then do BYU studetns drink holy water from the basin of their churches?
More likely juices and carbonated drinks that aren’t caffeinated – because even Coca Cola is (or at least was) controversial on that campus
http://utahvalley360.com/2014/03/27/new-byu-president-doesnt-mean-new-policy-about-caffeine/
Oh wow and here I thought Islamism and Buddhism are the most strict about the food.
Anyway, is there anyway for OP to take a gap year, and get better SAT so that he can be eligible for merit scholarhsip later?
@paul2752
Why should I do that when SUU already offered me their biggest scholarship? Unless I’d get superior scores that wouldn’t change the situation.
Oh I dind’ read that part.
Are Southwest Minnesota State and University of Wisconsin - Superior better than Southern Utah? Because from the virtual tour, I Iike SUU more. And what about Mankato State? They seem to be a large State University. Do you have any information that could help me make a decision?
Apply to all then decide based on whether they admitted you and whether they’re affordable.
Don’t count your chicken until they’ve hatched
Okay you’re right on that: ). Still, I’d like to know if you have any information so I can have a favorite in my mind if Stetson wasn’t affordable.
Stetson University is asking for an evaluation of the last three years of high school. Is it worth spending about 250$ on evaluation for only one university requiring this?
you can type “college data” + the name of the university, you’ll get all kinds of details. Open a notebook and write your findings in order to compare easily, or use a spreadsheet.
Focus on average GPA, % students with scores above 600 (add %pts for 600 and 700), % classes under 20 vs. above 40, % freshmen who live on campus, % students in top 10% class and top quarter of class, % returning after freshman year, % graduating in 4 years. After that, anything is fair game for your comparisons.
@nowme282 - I am surprised that only one of the universities you are looking at is requiring the records evaluation. Many, many do. Where are you sending yours? The students I work with usually send theirs to http://wes.org/
@happymomof1
Stetson is the only university I’m interested in requiring this so didn’t plan to do any evaluation at all.
- I have another question: do you have any university in mind that is similar to the University of California Santa Barbara or Florida Atlantic University in size, campus size and campus life and that’d be within my budget? Though I’m absolutely happy with Southern Utah University I’d be even more happy with a university of that size.
That’s why I’m still torn between attending a community college in California and doing well there so that I’d get a merit scholarship at a bigger university after two years. - I’ve looked for a few CC’s, could you please tell me about the cost of living there? According to the internet a single room is about 450-600$ a month and for food one should plan about 300$/month. Is that realistic?
College of the Canyons, Santa Clarita
MiraCosta College, Oceanside
Orange Coast College, Costa Mesa
Santa Barbara City College, most students seem to live in Isla Vista though.
That way I should spend about 18,000$/year, would be in my no 1 location and in the best case I’d do well and get a high scholarship making it possible to study at a better university like USC. However, I am also aware of the lower chances to get a scholarship for international transfers.
There are no merit scholarships for international transfers. If you want to go cc -> 4-year, You have to choose a Cc in the state where you want to transfer and in a state where you can afford the last 2years without scholarships. Transferring from one state 's cc to another state 's 4-year is complicated, expensive, and often results in love of credits.
So if you’re thinking of Florida, you should attend a cc in Florida.
The amounts you cite are way too low. I’d budget $1,200 a month for rent and groceries in most areas of California.
Each college and university posts projected Costs of Attendance on its website. For community colleges, there should be separate COAs for students who live at home, students who live on their own, and for international students.
The students I work with here in the Far North Rural Midwest, are asked to budget at least $1000 each month for living expenses. California has to be significantly more expensive.
We understand you’re dreaming of California. Millions of students do. But sadly, unless you’re an outstanding candidate who’s lucky enough to get a lot of financial aid, California will simply be too expensive. That’s the reality.
The California community colleges you’re interested in will cost almost $22K per year because California is a very costly place, period. Those costs are on their websites. All you need to do is to Google “mira costa college international student cost of attendance” and you get this:
http://www.miracosta.edu/studentservices/iip/EstimatedCostofAttendance.html
There is very little aid for international transfer students – so after CC you’d still be looking at minimum $40K/year.
If you’re serious about studying in the US, focus on affordable states and 4 year schools which will give you FA for 4 years. Because right now, you’re simply seriously wasting your time.
@MYOS1634
@happymomof1
Thank you :).
College of the Canyon’s projected cost for international student is, including health insurance and personal expenses, below 19,000$. Santa Barbara was 24,000$. I was asking, because I’m not sure about the cost of rooms in the US. I was looking on craiglist and rooms were 450$+ in Santa Clarita. I’m however not sure about the last two years in California. Its a really difficult decision! As for the cost there isn’t much difference in Florida so I’m preferring California.
@katliamom
Okay, thanks. That’s what I did, I already received an scholarship at SUU and I’m very happy with it. I am only looking whether or not it’s possible to go to a CC in California or a big state college in another state. Do you have any idea? I already used many search engines like a thousand time and feel like I’ve already checked each college twice.
