The UNLV SOM has received preliminary accreditation from the LCME and is now accepting applications for it inaugural class, to start Fall 2017.
AMCAS will have UNLV added to the list of school options within the next 10 days. You must apply to UNLV SOM via AMCAS.
UNLV is open to Nevada residents as well as residents of all adjacent states. (Do you hear that California?)
Residents of non-adjacent states will be considered only if they meet one of these criteria:
Currently enrolled, or a graduate of a university or college in Nevada
Graduate of a Nevada high school, public, charter or private
Born in Nevada
Lived in Nevada previously, before or after the age of 18, for at least 12 months
Primary family* members currently reside full-time in Nevada
Dependent of a member of the active-duty military who claims Nevada as their primary state of residence
Current or former member of the military who claims Nevada as their primary state of residence
Physically lived in Nevada for 12 months prior to matriculation date (planned start date for UNLV School of Medicine’s charter class is July 17, 2017)

When this gets out, many Calif high school premeds will consider UNLV or UNReno for undergrad…or at least to transfer to for the last couple of years.
California is one of the 5 state that shares borders with Nevada so CA pre-meds don’t need to attend UNLV or UN-Reno to be considered. As residents of an adjacent state, they already get considered for admission.
A spokesperson for UNLV SOM said that while the bulk of students will come from Nevada, approx 20-25% of the class will be taken from California, Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Arizona.
Lol…I misread the criteria. It’s the non-bordering state residents that must meet one of the criteria. Thanks for the correction.
Wow…California residents will be bombarding it with apps.
I wonder if UN-Reno SOM also accepts bordering state residents.
