University Notre Dame REA-Eve?

Who thinks that ND REA decision will come out tomorrow? DS is hopeful and is wearing his ND sweatshirt today for luck, but he is realistic about his chances. Can’t believe we are almost at the moment of truth. Wish we knew what pile he was in!

@VegasRoller Good luck to your son! Could you provide his stats so we could chance him (ACT/SAT, GPA, EC’s, Honors, Classes, AP, SATII etc.) w/ those (also I’d like to compare some stats to those as well). Thanks!

thanks @howdy99 this is what he has:

To me it sounds like your son is in. I have no idea why he wouldn’t be accepted.

@ak9800 thanks, he’s hoping, but ND is super-hard to get into, and we know how many amazing applicants there are. We’re hoping that wearing the ND sweatshirt today will help

@VegasRoller I am also wearing my ND sweatshirt. Also, I was curious why you said a 1480 SAT is on the low end. The admissions statistics for last year’s applicant pool on Notre Dame’s website stated that 1390 to 1530 was the Middle 50%

With all the EC’s and honors he has going for him I’m not sure why you’d assume his chances of admission are low. Yes, test scores are a decently large part of the process but a 1480 still puts him well into the mid 50%. I would be SHOCKED if he was not accepted.

Note that the admissions stats on the ND webpage appear to be incorrect. See an earlier thread (from November?) which includes a link to a “snapchat takeover” posted by Courtney Kelly in ND admissions last summer. For last year’s class the mid-50% range for admits was cited as “1470 to 15”-something by the admissions rep. The counselor’s comment was cut off due to the snapchat 10-second duration, but 1470 was the 25th percentile part of the range.

The 1480 is definitely within the middle range, but @VegasRoller is correct that 1480 seems to be nearer the lower end of the range (assuming the stats provided last summer were correct). By the way, Vegas’s son appears to be an all-around rock star, so hard to imagine that a 1480 would be the decider. Then again, it’s a crapshoot with so many strong applicants, so no one really knows outside the admissions office.

Other ND parents were irritated with me for questioning the scores that ND shows on its own Admissions Statistics website, so I’ll just refer you to the earlier thread and not get people riled up all over again. Best of luck to all applicants going through the process this year.

Why’d you have to say this the day before decisions come out (hopefully) GeronimoAlpaca. Now you’ve got me worried about the 1490 that I previously felt good about. :frowning:

@ak9800 I think your 1490 converts to ACT 33 which is middle 50th. You are sitting good.

thanks @GeronimoAlpaca he worked hard, as did all of you and your sons and daughters. Only thing left to do is wait and hope and put on your ND sweatshirts all!

@VegasRoller Well said. The waiting is just so hard though.

@GeronimoAlpaca I think she may have been confused. Perhaps the 1470 is the average sat? I don’t think they would leave lower stats on their admissions statistics for over a year without them being accurate (although they’ve been fuzzy with that act range). The concordance table for sat to act is old and based on bad data. If you look at the new percentiles sat released a couple months ago, ND’s 25-75 act and sat scores actually line up pretty well.

I think your son has a great chance!

Thanks @NDreams

If you look at the common data set for ND last year, they report their percentiles on the 2400 format. Running these through the calculator the percentiles come out as 1410 - 1550 which is odd.

Doesn’t ND super score SAT? Do the admission stats reflect super score?

@Happietexan yes, ND superscores.

@Happietexan, and yes, I suspect the admission stats reflect superscores.

You said 1480 was from a single sitting. Did you take it again?

@Happietexan no his superscore = his most recent single score. He took it again December 2nd and feels like math went alot better. We’ll see. I know it’s not relevant for REA, but it will be if he’s deferred.
