University of Alabama Admissions for Fall 2023

I don’t think there is a huge rush. There was probably a significant “wave” because they opened applications relatively early. UA is super generous with merit and NMSF, and the promise of full tuition was definitely not something we could turn away from! That said, my daughter has applied but we haven’t visited :grimacing:…and we are in state. I do think getting a housing deposit in as early as possible might help if she wants to live on campus, but other than that, I don’t see a huge disadvantage to waiting. When do you plan to visit?? We are trying to get through the craziness of Fall (my daughter is the marching band and IB, so her Extended Essay is due soon) and then we plan to try to go check it out.

My application type updated to be a transfer student. When I click on it and actually go into the portal, it still says I’m a New First Time Freshman. Dual enrollment isn’t supposed to affect it based on their website. Did this happen to anyone else?

Marching band rules! Had family on DCI teams. We have show choir/swim/run/etccc kids so it’s just nonstop.

Honestly, short of Alabama opening a portal for us to step through I’m not sure how/when we’ll get there. But we’ll make it work. I’ve got a ph.D. from UGA and will readily admit my first reaction was umm Bama? But seriously, the honors program looks great, and a school that big has opportunities galore. Gonna be a tough call (for her, I swear lol) on state school here (IU, Purdue) vs UK (fam there, might get good offer) vs UA if she loves it. I said we’d cover in-state cost and I’m sticking to it…BUT THAT OFFER. Best I’ve seen.

Yes, happened to my son! Let me know if they end up resolving it for you?

The only real rush is for preference in housing. So, you will want to get your housing deposit in early. Housing at all universities (not just Bama) is an issue (looking at you Purdue). You may end up putting down multiple housing deposits. We did. Some (or part of some) housing deposits are refundable. It depends on the university. For Bama (S22 is a NMF), getting his in early guaranteed honors housing. For those students wanting to be involved in sorority rush, it guaranteed the new Tut.

Other advice, when you tour, contact your local recruiter. Work them in setting up your tour. It will be better if you do. Ours was awesome. I cannot emphasize this enough. I have a picture on my desk of my then high schooler meeting President Bell at the President’s Tailgate prior to the Ole Miss game.

My daughter is a freshman NMF in a couple of the honors programs. Before applying, she was a little worried about fitting in given the party reputation, but she couldn’t be happier with her choice. She is thriving at Alabama. She has found a great group of friends. She loves her professors and her classes. She’s starting to get involved in organizations and activities that she’s excited about. And she has already started working with a professor whose research she was interested in. You are correct that the honors programs have that small, close-knit feel while also taking advantage of the benefits and diverse opportunities of a large, research university. And the campus is lovely as well. It is extremely well-run and clean, and every member of the administration and faculty that we’ve ever interacted with has been friendly, competent, helpful, and responsive. In addition to the housing aspect mentioned earlier, the only thing I’d keep in mind as far as deadlines is that most of the honors programs have a Dec 1st deadline, and they sometimes require you to be accepted into the honors college before applying. I don’t think many of the applications for those programs have opened yet, so you have plenty of time still. Just something to be aware of because they do have essays. Feel free to PM if you have any questions about our experience.

Are you enrolled in Early College? In the UA Applicant Portal, my daughter’s looks the same as far as I can tell, but she is enrolled in UAEC so she has a MyBama account. On there, for Fall 2023, it now says “Decision: Admitted”, which I guess is good news.

Congrats!! And thank you for the tip to look - we have the same!!

Ours is the same.
App status has not changed, but by logging in to daughters MyBama from EC it shows fall 2023 Undergrad App as Admitted :grinning:. I do know that many letters went out early this week just waiting on snail mail…

Congrats!! Do you think our App status will change before the snail mail arrives?

My daughter is not in Early College. She submitted her application in July. Still no news from the college.

The “letters” that went out earlier this week…were they mailed? :mailbox_with_mail:
Just wondering if the acceptance package in the mail is the first “official” notification we can expect. Or do they send an email??

Has anybody heard from BAMA yet? On the official website it’s said: If all required items are submitted, you’ll likely receive a decision within two weeks. My daughter’s application has been completed since the middle of July.

Nothing from Bama yet. Some people received “unofficial” decisions last week, but no emails or snail mail yet that I’ve heard of. Hopefully this week, although someone posted on another page that an advisor suggested they’d start coming out next week.

That’s a good question! I would think it would, but that’s only an assumption.

Getting way ahead of myself, I know, but how soon after acceptance do merit offers typically come out? And are those “snail mailed” as well? Thanks!

Did you ask a recruiter?

I think that’s a generic comment for those who submit applications once decisions start rolling out. On my daughter’s application status page, it says “we will be releasing decisions for the 2023 round after Labor Day 2022. Once a decision is released, notification will arrive via standard mail within 10 business days”. So the first letters should be arriving this week.

If you have all green “completed” check marks, hopefully should hear back this week!

Thank you for the clarification. I was under the impression that the decision will be visible online or they will send an email first.

If your student has mybama access (if he/she is an early college student) the status will be available online. If not you have to wait until you are admitted to get mybama access, but by that time you would have known the decision already.
