Truman has offered me a considerable amount of money to attend their school, and being a biology pre-med major it is important to save as much money as possible. UAB has offered me scholarship as well, but is a little out of the range of what my family can pay. Both schools seem to have great pre-med tracks with plenty of clubs to join. Being an ethnic student I am a little concerned about the lack of diversity in Kirksville while UAB is very diverse. UAB has many multicultural events that I would enjoy participating in. UAB is also situated in a city while I am unsure about the atmosphere of rural Kirksville. Overall, I feel as though I would enjoy the social atmosphere of UAB a little more. Truman has smaller class sizes which is an upside for me as I am a reserved person and concerned about getting attention from teachers. UAB has bigger classes, and I am concerned teachers won’t be as easily accessible. Can anyone offer any insight in to any of these schools?
Truman St. is MO’s public honors college and most selective public in the state. Lots of bright kids go there.
The key here is to determine just exactly what “a little bit out of the range” means for your family. Are we talking about a difference of a couple hundred bucks, or is it several thousand dollars? For pre-meds who are looking to take on massive debt to get through med school, the cheaper undergrad program is almost always the better choice.
What GPA do you need to maintain in order to keep your scholarships?
After reading through the list of student organizations at Truman State, can you find any that look good to you? You describe yourself as “ethnic”. Have you looked at information about programming run by Truman State’s International Students Office? Those events are open to everyone on campus, and a good opportunity to meet all sorts of people.
