oh wow, that does seem like a great opportunity at Summertide! Thanks for the info!!

Billy, she was at the January audition. We are from Memphis, Tn. so it will be a short drive to Tuscaloosa for us.

I do theatre myself here in Memphis, and one of the young ladies I was in Little Shop of Horrors with, will be a Jr. in the MT program next fall at UA…her name is Ashley, and I believe we have a few other Memphians in the theatre program there as well.

Congratulations on your acceptance…look forward to meeting you.

How many MT students does UA admit? Is it severely limited like UCF or FSU??

I’ve been checking out UA’s website since initially seeing this thread and UA really does look like it offers a lot for MT students.

UA only accepts 8 students to each new class, mom2them.

It really varies to how many people they accept. I’m not sure there’s a set number, but I would say they offer 8-14 spots, and usually about 8-10 accept. My class (2011) is one of the largest with 11. We started out with 12 and lost a few and gained a few transfers. We usually have about 200 audition a year, so not as many as some other schools.

We have lots of students from Memphis! Lots of talent coming from Memphis.

Senior showcase and SETC were great successes this year! We have a ton of students working all over the country this summer including a sophomore appearing as Val in “A Chorus Line” at Theatre by the Sea.

We also have a senior who just got JennyAnyDots in the national tour of CATS!

It’s great to see how far our department has come just in the three years I’ve been a part of it. I hope people searching for schools will strongly consider the University of Alabama!

Roll Tide!!

Hello…

My D and I are planning a visit to Alabama in April to see Big River…

Does anyone know if theatre faculty would meet with a prospective high school sophomore??

Thanks!

I took my daughter to see their Summertide show at Gulf Shores when my daughter was a sophomore and we were vacationing. We stayed after the show and talked to the Raphael Crystal. He was very gracious and informative. He spent quite a while talking to my D about the program and encouraging her to audition. D also emailed him a couple of times with questions and he was quick to get back to her the the information.

I bet that they would be more that willing to spend time with your D. They seem really friendly.

My D is a sophomore and we have actually scheduled several schools to visit over spring break and none of them have said anything negative about meeting with us. We are even sitting in on classes and they have actually made a reference that it is good to start looking early
