i am noticing a lot of posts here about cuts at arizona.

i graduated from the BFA program last month…and i just want to clear the air so that people on here can get an honest (not embittered) point of view.

despite what people (who have or whose loves ones have been cut) will tell you…the cuts are dealt with very forewardly at arizona. you are made aware FROM DAY ONE that cuts happen in may and that you could be cut simply because of numbers…and that it does not necessarily have to be the result of some mistake that you’ve made.

you are also told to prepare for each year as if you WILL be cut…that way you can audition for other programs/apply to other schools in plenty of time just in case you do get cut.

the program is very selective…and as with any good program…just getting in doesn’t guarantee you a degree…you have to work hard to demonstrate that you have the talent, technique, and trainability to be advanced into each year of the program.

some great people get cut. but for the most part…those who do are clearly lagging behind others in the program.

the only point that i really want to make is PLEASE don’t let the advice of people who are bitter about being cut effect decision as important as where you get your education.

Arizona’s program is FANTASTIC…and you should realize that the reason these people are so bitter is because they wish they could still be a part of it.
