OK, I have asked this a few times over the months, with no specific response. We have the frequent flier miles to visit one of Arizona's audition locations (Las Vegas on Feb. 9th and Tuscon later in the month). I have read and reread the CC comments of recent years regarding their cutting practices. A close read suggests that they cut - that is not the issue. The question is whether, last year, they cut in the same 'manner' as in the earlier year discussed by those affected on CC.
This question is likely best answered by a student or administrator who is intimate with whether the institutional practices in the spring of 2007 were the same as the previous year(s). Again, I am not prompting another discussion about the 'good' and 'bad' of cutting. I just want to ascertain whether Arizona has addressed the more severe consequences of its practices, as reported (and subsequently responded to by UA) in earlier years. It is an awkward question to ask fafe to face. I also suspect that there are others out there who are ambiguous about applying to UA because of the seeming arbitrariness of their cuts (by contrast, DePaul cuts, but there is much less ambiguity as to how many, how, and when).
UA is a nice school for the money. The BFA program looks impressive. My S does not have a problem with programs that cut. But I would rather not waste frequent flier miles on an institution whose cutting practices resemble what was earlier reported on CC.
