Hello, I am trying to decide between ASU and U of A for electrical engineering. Which one is better? I am accepted into the honors college at U of A and should get my decision for the Barrett honors college in a couple weeks.

Thanks!

Hello, I am trying to decide between ASU and U of A for electrical engineering. Which one is better? I am accepted into the honors college at U of A and should get my decision for the Barrett honors college in a couple weeks.

Thanks!

I am a University of Arizona student, so from that perspective I would encourage you to go to the U of A because it is a great place to live, work, and go to school. On the whole, I would consider it the better of the two schools.

However, in an attempt to give you an unbiased opinion, I would say that if you get into Barrett, then go to ASU because they have the superior honors college. I myself dropped out of the honors college because I felt like I was not getting a lot out of the program. But if that is something you believe you would want, then I would go there.

Beyond that I would look at what both engineering programs have to offer and go from there. I know that each university has its strong points in engineering, I am just not familiar with the electrical engineering programs.

Good luck in choosing!

Don’t base your decision on the honors program. Base it on the engineering program. Few employers and only occasionally do graduate schools give a hoot about whether you were in an honors college. Go to the program that fits you best and that gives you the opportunities you seek upon graduation.

Thanks guys, this is a hard decision. Does anyone know which college has a better electrical engineering (leaning towards the computer option) program?

ASU has the larger ECE program. Both are great options - have you visited?

I visited and stayed overnight with engineering students at the U of A and liked it. I have not visited ASU yet.

Both ASU and UA have great engineering programs, but I’ll side with ASU (since I’m going there next year). Although ranking doesn’t prove anything, ASU ranks better in electrical engineering than UA. And the Fulton School of Engineering is much well-known compared to the university as a whole. I talked to several engineering students at ASU, and they ALL said ASU’s engineering is great. I’d like to quote some of their words, but it is too much tedious for me to do that right now (sorry, too lazy to go back to my FB messages!)

Haha that’s okay. Thanks for the input! I feel lucky to have such great programs that will cost a fourth of the price of others in the country (in state scholarship). Once I get my Barrett decision I will go visit it, hopefully that will narrow my choice to one. Thanks!
