I plan on studying business in college, so I would either be going into Eller College of Management or W.P. Carey School of Business. I’m just not sure which school is better? US News ranked ASU’s business school #30 and UA #58, but I’m not sure how much meaning these rankings actually have. Any advice?
WP Carey is regarded slightly better than Eller for undergrad. That being said, the distinction is relatively small and both are decent state business programs.
It should boil down to the actual school you want to attend. If you’d rather attend ASU and live in Tempe, go with WP Carey. If its UofA and Tucson, then pick Eller.
If you haven’t already, I’d also apply to both schools and visit if you can to be able to make the best choice with the most information.
Are you in Arizona or a WICHE state?
Definitely try to visit the universities. If you can’t, at least go onto googlemaps streetview and “walk” through the campuses and surrounding areas that way. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Tucson, and how the people are friendly and there is a mountain with snow nearby for skiing, but I don’t really know how it compares with Tempe. Best to research all aspects of attending each place, because the rankings of the business schools are so close they shouldn’t be the tiebreaker.
Over the Summer, I did a one week residential entrepreneurship program at the University of Arizona. I enjoyed it, but I’ve never done a program like this at ASU, even though I was accepted to ASU (I didn’t apply to the UofA). I think ASU is slightly better for Business. WP Carey in Tempe is beautiful, while I thought Eller just kind of blended in with everything else. But it is up to you. Good luck on your choice!
