Those are my three options. The financial picture isn’t clear yet so just assume everything is equal on that front for the sake of discussion.
I’m excited about each choice, and I feel all of them have their pros and cons. I think UBC has a great academic reputation, and it’s in a great location, but it’s a little bit far from me so I’d have to decide if I’m okay with the distance. American and Wake are a little bit closer. I think Wake also has a great academic reputation but I’m not sure how I feel about Winston-Salem. American seems a little bit less highly regarded, but being in DC would be a blast.
Wow, that’s sure apples and a truck full of oranges.
AU is very well regarded, at least in the DC area and the fields in which it specializes. Depends on what you want to do. Some of its depts are very small, some are very extensive. No clue about Wake Forest. And UBC?!? Have looked into it a bit, S has a friend there and it’s got appealing programs – as I guess it would, what with 50,000 students! (OK, a mere 36,000 undergrads.) But wow. That’s a lot of people. Though I guess it’s intimate compared to U of Toronto with 67,000 undergrads
What are your own pros and cons about the schools? How did you happen to pick that particular mix?
It depends. If you are interested in politics, international relation and so on, American University is a great choice. Since the school is located in DC, internships and jobs are always available. But if you are not sure about your major, UBC may be better. It offers many programs and the campus is beautiful. I don’t have any clue about Wake forest though.
