University of California at Berkeley Chances??

<p>Stats:
Graduation: Early Summer, 2014, no grades "skipped"
As stated below, I AM AN OUT-OF-STATE APPLICANT (from Florida, if that changes anything...)
COURSELOAD AND GPA=======================================
Sophomore and Junior Year GPA:=======
UW GPA: 3.63
Weighted GPA (OOS, assuming pre-IB and honors courses, as they are not UC approved, receive no bonus): 4.17
Weighted GPA (assuming pre-IB/honors courses receive a +0.5 bonus): 4.35
Weighted GPA (assuming pre-IB/honors courses receive a +1.0 bonus): 4.53
Freshman through Junior GPA, listed in same order as specified above:
3.59
4.14
4.26
4.52
Courseload:::: Fresh 1 AP, 4 Honors/pre-IB, 2 electives////Soph 1 AP (could have taken AP psych, but took a second science honors course instead [Physics Hon and Chem pre-ib]), 1 elective, 5 preib-Honors////Junior All IB/AP courses (including 2 science courses, Bio and Chem) [3 AP, 4 IB]
Academic Trends: UW GPAs-- Fresh: 3.57, Soph: 3.50, Jun: 3.70</p>

<p>Other notable courses: Taking Calc AB junior year, will take "double-math" in senior year--Calc BC and Statistics, replacing my foreign language (AP Latin [I took IB Latin IV in junior year]; Taking double science as a sophmore (physics honors and chemistry pre-ib; second science replaced AP Psychology, potentially increasing or reducing courseload) and for junior/senior years (Chemistry IB and Biology IB--Both had A's Junior year [B's for pre-IB chemistry in sophomore year) (Replaced my elective course in Sophomore year and my "Sixth Subject" (E.g. Comp sci, Philosophy, Psych, etc...) in Junior and Senior Year
CLASS RANK========== 15%
As of sophomore year, 15%; likely to be significantly higher by beginning of senior year due to 3.7 UW GPA in Junior year, while most other grades are going down due to significantly increased workload (IB and AP courses). Also, pre-IB courses tended to hurt my class rank because of their increased difficulty in spite of their same weighting value as honors courses.
SAT/PSAT============================================== ================
(No subject tests)--750 M, 710 R, 700 W--2160 Composite--Not superscored--the scores were all from my first SAT test, and I haven't taken it a second time yet.
"Commended Scholar" on PSAT (probable, based upon a score of 203)
================================================== =================</p>

<h1>SENIOR YEAR COURSE REGISTRATION (I've heard that this is a factor in admissions): IB Biology, Chemistry, Contemporary American History, English, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Micro & Macro economics, AP Comp Gov--results in 8 AP tests and 5 IB tests (+ the extended essay and TOK assessment)</h1>

<p>AP SCORES:
European History: 5
World History: 4
Predicted Scores: Calculus AB [4+], English Language and Composition [4], USH [5]
"AP Scholar with Distinction" award is probable given predicted and actual scores....

<p>Bump
Also, how does the capping work? If a weighted GPA is capped at 8 semesters of honors/AP classes, shouldn’t the max GPA for Soph/Jun years be 4.25, assuming one takes 32 semesters of classes over the two years?</p>

<p>Can you pay full-freight to an UC?</p>

<p>Berkeley: High match
Notre Dame: Reach
UCLA: High match</p>

<p>^^I might apply for financial aid (theoretically I could pay, but it would be a pain)…
Do you seriously think that Berk is a match (albeit a “high” match)? My UW GPA is seriously crap compared to the admitted students’ 3.9. Even my weighted is terrible if the UC system fails to recognize my honors/preib courses as such…</p>

<p>Bump…
Need more opinions on this and someone to answer the following question:
“How does the capping work? If a weighted GPA is capped at 8 semesters of honors/AP classes, shouldn’t the max GPA for Soph/Jun years be 4.25, assuming one takes 32 semesters of classes over the two years?”</p>

<p>Bump…
Refer to above post 5 for the other question…</p>

<p>The UCs do admissions mainly on stats, more than ECs. Yours are decent, lucky for you berkley uses weighted GPA. The upward trend in your GPA is good too. You need to get that SAT up, but the high math will help at berkley. Being out of state also gives you a bump, assuming you’re okay with paying full out of state tuition (there is hardly any merit aid offered, and all the UCs are SEVERELY cash strapped, so expect to pay the 50 grand a year full price tag). I would put berkley conservatively at a high match/low reach for you. The out of state bump helps. Chance back at <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1508050-chances-science-undergrad-new-post.html[/url]”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1508050-chances-science-undergrad-new-post.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

<p>Bump for additional responses
Also, should I even bother taking the SAT II tests? I would think that the AP tests are a better supplement for at least the math SAT II as AP is college level, vs the high school level of SAT II, but I may be wrong…</p>

<p>Dude, you posted this like 8 times… all with like 10 replies…</p>

<p>Your SAT score is fine for UCB, but your GPA is low. I would say it would be high match to low reach for you as oos.</p>

<p>At UCs, OOS gives a bump only if one pays full-freight…</p>
