University of California Extension programs

One of my children is interested in a career change. The various UC’s offer certificates in various fields via their extension programs. Programs available vary from school to school. Examples are paralegal, human resources, teaching English as a second language, professional accounting, business accounting, project management and several more.
One of my kids is at a point of exploring career changes. These programs are fairly affordable and time for completion depends on program and how many classes you complete per quarter.
Interest would be in the different accounting certificates. Background education is a BS from Purdue in a program that required 3 semesters of accounting. Also a post grad job that had some accounting as part of her duties. It might be a field suited for her personality.
I have a friend who is an enrolled agent tax preparer and she has also suggested that route as a possible career path.

Looking for feedback on how the UC certificates are regarded out in the work world in all areas of study.Another option is looking into a Masters in Accounting.
Also pros of accountant versus tax preparer.
All in the early stages. She is totally unclear about what her next job should be.

Mom60 - my D1 actually took the first accounting class at UCSD extension last quarter. She was working for a business as a temporary doing their Quickbooks. My D has a BA and was trying to figure out what to do next. She liked the class ok, but has decided she doesn’t want to do accounting so stopped after the first class.
D2 had a professor for her accounting class last semester that really talked up getting the certificate. He said that he majored in Economics and then after several years got his certificate in accounting and worked for many years doing accounting for a corporation prior to teaching.
