finished my essay on sunday. i'm a night person and i concentrate a loot better at night. did questions 1 & 3 (600 words for #1) and spent from like 1am-8am haha and then sunday night i finished #2. now gotta start getting ppl to proofread, i have at least 5 ppl in mind.

and so i went to a ucla admissions info session today at school and here's some help to get you started brainstorming on 600word essay. thought this would be helpful for y'all:

past - family struggles/dynamics, academics, other activities

present - coursework, work (esp if you work 25+ hrs), maturity now b/c of CCC?

future - plans (graduate program?)

if so, I only work 20hrs/wk (3 days a wk), and about 13 quarter units and 4 is from the internship; so its not a bad schedule at all. I'm free after 5pm every weekday so i have time and I end up hanging out prettymuch everynight.. I just focused and drafted my essay all in a day (wasn't really planning on it) because I'll know that I would lose my concentration after I stop since I'd be tempted to go out. Also, I got really motivated to start early to improve my essay and chanes to get into UCLA, esp since I just decided about 2 weeks ago that I'd apply to ucla. I was orignally just gonna stick to CSUs with business admin major, instead of bus. econ.

anyway, i'm applying to 4 too: ucla, uci, sjsu (fee waived with TAA), calpoly slo.

Am I the only person who finds it crazy hard to do question #1, which is like 4 questions, about your major, in 200 words? I gotta use all my 600 on the personal statement....got some things to explain, so 200 on question 1? Killin me man...

Wow. I was feeling really great about myself until I read some of these posts. You guys have kick a** GPAS! .... Here are my stats:

Major: Political Science

G.P.A: 3.54 (the counselers and some UC reps said it was high enough...but I have my doubts)

Applying to: UCSD (FIRST CHOICE),UCB,UCLA,UCI, and UCD

IGETC: Will be completed by spring (only two more classes left)

Prereqs: Will finish all by winter

No TAG or TAP Agreement :(

EC's: none. I know this probably will look bad but w/ family obligations, I just don't have time to stay after school and join clubs.

We had Transfer Day at my cc recently and the UCSD rep. told me they don't even read the personal statements. She said with all the applications they get, they don't have time to read them. Basically, she said that since my major wasn't an impacted major and my GPA was above the average GPA from 2005 transfers (which was a 3.4?), I had a pretty good shot.

Now I'm reading all the stats from other students who are planning on transfering and most of them are majoring in Poli Sci with higher GPAS and lots of EC's...that's pretty fierce competion. bites nails nervously ....so what do you guys think are my chances? Esp. to UCSD?

The average transfer admit to UCLA with a political science major is 3.5 exactly. This means, you're above the average admit for poli sci at UCLA. I believe UCLA is more difficult to be admitted into than UCSD. Hope this helps.

Here is the UCLA link thingy which shows the Average GPA admits for majors:

the ucla counselor that came to my ccc said they read through every personal statement. ucsd's probably different then. but yeah, if you have family obligations, make sure you include that in your statement. it's important to state that if theres something unsual so they would understand.

and yeah, i didnt realize how LITTLE 200 and even 600 words were until you finally start writing and you keep looking at your wordcount..

do schools really value work experience? 'Cause i work about 25 hours a week, and take 17 units at school. A lot of days for me are 8-2 class, 3-9/10 work, and don't sleep until i finish hw/studying.

ok, now i am a bit confused. dhl3, when you said that a decent essay, do u mean the 4 personal statements? Becoz i dont see any other essays that we have to write except for the 4 personal statements? I really hope that the UC's( esp UCLA), dont emphasize too much on ECs and work employmt cuz i have only one which is quite pathetic.
