University of California Transfer Students Fall 2007 OFFICIAL THREAD!!!

AP units NEVER hurt anyone. Worse comes to worse, they just won't count them.

"The more units you have, the worse off you are?"

No not necessarily...for instance UCLA told me they like to see students with closer to 80 (semester) units. As long as you don't go over it is actually in your favor to have a lot of units. It means you were able to take more classes and still maintain your gpa.

If you check the admitted students of last year, a lot of them applied with like 100 units, so i dont think its a big problem.

Note, those 100 units are QUARTER units, which is equivalent to approx. 67 semester units. But all in all, if you are coming from a ccc, it doesnt matter whether you go over the limit.

when do the admission officers actually start reviewing our applications?
does earlier submission of app have a camparative advantage over those who wait last minute?

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe that they start reviewing transfer applications after they are through with the freshmen's. Which will be around late-Feb. or March.

At first I believed this was true, but I emailed the undergrad. admissions regarding this and they said all applications will be treated equally regardless of the time they were submitted (unless you were TAP certified and from CCC). So the answer to your question is, No.

If we are taking a winter session class should we wait to update our UC application until the end of January so that it will include our winter course?

You know, that's actually the same problem I'm having. I know some students in certain schools do not get their winter grades by Feb. 15 (UC update deadline) so they won't be able to post it. But for those of us who are able to get it by then, I think it really depends on how you feel about it.

I mean, if you got an A on the winter course, obviously it'll improve your chance of admission so it's most logical to include it in your update. However, if your grade was B or less, it will not very likely help you so you have the choice of not updating that grade at all...

At least that's what I think. My question is, are we allowed to do that?

oh, i didnt know they were quarter units lol

we need to find out the answer to that question

i really dont want to put my winter grades lol

I spoke with the admissions counselor today and she told me they actually make their decision before looking at logistics like correct number of units or which courses will receive transfer credit, etc. That's kind of a relief to me because it said that I was under the limit with only 58 hours (before AP credit).

so ur under the limit if you wouldnt receive any ap? how many units would it be with ap?

do they want us to wait until or winter grades are released? or should we update it now?

i recently transferred to NYU as a spring tranfer. However, just before i received the admission decision I had submitted my UC applications to all the UC campuses. I was attending a California CC but now have started at NYU. does this mean I am not transferring from a CCC therefore making my chances slimmer? Or, since my transfer coursework was fulfilled at a CCC will i still be considered a CCC transfer? i hope this is clear enough and any insight into this situation will be appreciated.

i had the same question several times because i was going to transfer over to Emory and then to Amherst College, but i spoke with admissions over at UCSB and he told me that they place strong emphasis on your status as a CC student, meaning whether or not you are attending. Since you are currently attending NYU, you will have to update your information and let all the UCs know that you are now attending a 4-year. With this said, it is also very likely that you may not be considered a CCC transfer student because you are currently at a 4-year and its the CCC students that need to get out of their school once the 2 years end.

Well they aren't going to force us to update it now. That's why they have the deadline a month from now. I think what they want to tell us is "hey if you are not taking any winter term and do not have any more incoming grades, you should update the application now; there's no point of waiting till the last minute." and "if you are taking the winter term, we'll give you a bit more time till mid-February so you have time to update it. It's really your choice".

I don't think the time you update really matters as long as you do it by the deadline. Just like the UC application.

Why would you go from a CCC then transfer to an OOS 4-year and then transfer to another 4-year?

Why not just go straight from CCC to your 4-year of choice?

Yams, if you're reading this thread, can you please clear up your inbox. I cannot send you a pm.

Yeah, without AP I'm at 58. With AP, I'm probably over 90: I took 6 in high school and got higher than a 3 on all of them. I hope this means I'm still eligible.
