i think you are eligible, since they ask you for ap scores.

Woah, is this a "likely letter" from UCB?

For over 70 years, Alumni Scholarships at UC Berkeley have awarded the very finest student leaders from across the country. This year, we will give out some $2 million in undergraduate scholarships to more than 800 students. You are receiving this message because we want you to apply for the Leadership Award.

did you get that by email or by mail?

e-mail...take that 10 character limit!

thats weird that i havent gotten it yet, the Alumni scholarship is for gpas that are 3.75 +

Ah I see. I applied with a 3.86.

Yeah I got the e-mail also, and it's not likely letter cause i got invited to apply to alumni scholarship out of high school and i did and still got rejected lol

I got an invitation to apply for the Alumni Acheivement Scholarship, but there's a HUGE disclaimer on the bottom saying that receiving the e-mail means nothing about your admission decision.

I know it says that, but obviously they don't send it to everyone. So I'd guess that the percentage of students admitted receiving that e-mail is still higher than the percentage not receiving it.

I'm applying with a 3.93 and I did not receive it.

I personally don't think it means anything, especially because it's going to be a while before they get around to the transfer applications.

Which one are we talking about? Cuz there's two...the Acheivement and the Leadership. I'm pretty sure they both don't mean anything about decisions.

3.67 gpa not including fall 06. would have been a 3.8 if not for a C i got in an online poli sci course over the summer. are the admissions ppl gonna see that as good or bad. i am a communications major, transferring from a CCC. i think my essays are pretty good cuz i spent a lot of time on them, and my counselor and this teacher at my writing center who edits personal statements said mine were very good, altho i dont really take that to mean anything she prolly says that to a lot of ppl. my ECs are basically: community service (homeless outreach program), i'm very active at my church, and i'm in the Army Reserves (although that might count as a job).

schools i applied to:
1. CAL
2. UCLA
3. DAVIS

i only really care about Cal, so it's hit or miss for me, even if i get into ucla and not cal, i woudl just go to davis. what are my chances? also are there letters of rec needed for cal? my teacher the other day asked me if i needed a letter of rec for berkeley cuz it really helps. i didn't know you needed letters of rec but is there a backdoor for that or something? last question, which might be a stupid one but, what is TAP? thanks.

Grade Trend: 3.7 (Summer 2005) => 3.812 (Fall 2005) => 3.405 (Spring 2006) => 3.891 (Fall 2006)
My GPA dipped down to a 3.405 in the Spring of 2006 because I recieved a "C" in Integral Calculus.

I know that a strong mathematical background is crucial for economics majors so I will include the list of the grades in received in math.

Applied Mathematics and Matrices: A
Integral Calculus: C
Analytical Geometry and Calculus II: A-
Algorithms and Computer Programming: W <= listed as a mathematics course.

In the Spring of 2007, I will be taking Introduction to Probability (Advanced Level Class,) Econometrics (Advanced,) Intermediate Micro-Economics (Intermediate,) Political Economy (Intermediate,) and Logic and Moral Reasoning (Basic.)

All my other courses are As or A-s, and I have 2 B+s.

** Today I recieved an email about an Alumni Leadership Scholarship ** - I know about the disclaimer but would'nt it look good anyways?

Hey guys, I know DHL said that a 3.691 is solid, however my situation is different. I attend a non-California city college, and I am applying to a very competitive major; economics (most of the economics majors on this thread had 3.8+ GPAs.) I would like to know your opinions are on my chances of admission. What my strong points are, my weak points, etc.

There is nothing I can do now, but I have serious anxiety about my application.

Thanks a mill.

Jae H Chung

That e-mail you got has noting to do with your chances. I applied with a 3.95 and got nothing.

It probably has to do with the scholarships that you applied with. Remember when they gave you a list of scholarships on your app. that you could choose from (it was right after your UC campus selections).

The people that got those e-mails probably selected something that would fall under the alumni scholarships.

Yeah I applied with a 3.94 and I did not receive the email.

Jae, I think both schools are a slight reach because you are OOS. At least you are not applying for bus econ or bus though.

Lol don't let the posters in this forum scare you off.
Most people here are what the typical people might call "overachievers" and are likely to be in the right side of the bell curve. There are just as many people who apply to economics major with GPA below 3.5 who just decide to not visit this forum. I mean, even if we add up the entire population of all the people who post in the CC forum, it's still a VERY VERY VERY VERY small minority of people.

You've taken a very rigourous course at your current school and your GPA is not bad at all. You definitely have a shot. Go for it~

Currently attending: foothill college (ccc)
Major: communications
Major P/R: need 4 more classes which I am taking this quarter
GPA: 3.67 (would have been 3.8 if not for a C in an online poli sci course, are the admissions ppl gonna see that as good or bad.

how can they make a decision without knowing if the student has met unit requirements, etc?

sound weird

Hi can anyone give me an estimate of my chances of transferring from a CSU to UC Berkeley?

Applied to: UC Berkeley
Major: History
From: CSU Chico
GPA: 3.77
Solid Essay
All Pre Reqs for major completed
EC: Volunteer at library, various other volunteer organizations (rotary), work etc.

I have learned so much from reading this entire thread. Thanks for all those that help with questions like mine.

honestly csu chico is probably not even better than the top 3 community colleges in california..so the 3.77 doesn't impress me. iono about admissions.

u also dont have priority. but its def worth a shot. pre reqs done..still a high gpa...good luck
