Political Science Major from De Anza to UCB

GPA (after fall quarter) = 3.916 (95.5 Units)
*Plan on taking 21.5 during winter and spring quarters

The Good:
1) Pre-reqs are all completed with a 4.0 and every other part of the igetc (minus stats)
2) My only 2 B's were from the same quarter in the summer of 2004 (almost 3 years ago)

The Bad:
1) I have an incomplete from MATH 10 (Stats) which is the last class i need to fulfill my igetc. The class will not be done until the end of Winter quarter (since professor only teaches part time)

Extra Currics: Solid
Personal Statements: Solid (I wont say perfect, but i won't say they were crappy either)

What do you guys think my chances are?
Thanks a bunch and good luck all!

good luck everyone this cycle! be proud you've made it this far and I'm sure you'll all be happy no matter where you end up. I ended up in my third choice and was crushed not getting into Berkeley but now I'm extremely happy to be here and wouldn't change anything.

Candidates entering from a California community college

Candidates who would enter UC Berkeley in fall from a California Community College receive notification after the Office of Undergraduate Admissions posts admissions results for entering advanced standing students on the Undergraduate Admissions web site. We anticipate that date to be May 1

its unfair that freshmen get notified now but we have to wait until after our admission.

lol. if you say so zemookmook. if you're gonna psych yourself based on your own argument, you're crazy!

I'm actually agreeing with you. Since there's less qualified applicants, they can look at each applicant more holistically. A more holistic review will focus more attention on extracurriculars, essay, etc., thus slight variations in GPA will matter only slightly ("6. to treat as of little importance" -Dictionary.com).

socal, i know that last year ucla accepted about 16% of the applicants from u.s. schools outside ca. it's definitely possible, though much more difficult. i'm in the same boat, as im transferring from an outta state private school. im still a ca resident though, and got ELC in hs, so i hope that might help a little. we just have to hope the ucs will want to help their stats a little by accepting some of us :) good luck everyone!!

hmm ive heard that for all ca residents, they try to offer admission to at least one uc campus. ive also heard that the different campuses communicate, which is why many people get into either berkeley or la, but often not both (that happened to almost everyone i knew in hs, maybe it's different for transfers, im not sure). this is kindof a stupid question, but does anyone think that maybe applying to a school like sd could hurt one's chances at la because they might just throw you a bone by letting you in there? i guess it's kindof hard to tell because admissions is usually pretty random. ive had friends who've gotten into sd and davis, but then not into irvine. sigh...i should probably be concentrating more on doing well on midterms rather than wasting away on cc. i swear, this site is about to be the end of me, lol

That's a good point ckdunton. I hope that's not true. So if you hope to get into UCLA, it would make sense to apply only to UCLA and to CAL. Haha hmm iono, limiting the places you apply would help in your logic but it's putting your eggs in less baskets.

They definitely communicate with each other. When I called UCSC during approx. May of 05 she was able to tell me how many schools I was accepted to vs. the number I applied to.
Furthermore, I did apply to 7 of the UC campuses and wasn't granted admission to UCB or UCLA but was granted admission to UCSD. I didn't get into any other school except UCI which makes me believe that they did make a deal not to have me accepted at some of the lower ranked schools (such as UCSC) in order to limit my options of schools to the one "most suited" to me.
Much of those conclusions are of course merely speculative on my part.

if you apply to both la and sd, your chance of getting into la would be lower compared to applying only to la

No, they do communicate but it doesn’t lower your chances. If you're not going to get into UCLA, you're not getting into UCLA. However, if UCSD sees that you didn’t get into any top tier schools they will reconsider you (in some cases).
It works to your benefit.

thanks for the responses guys. angljc, i sure hope you're right. i still might call admissions tomorrow just to double check because i would seriously consider canceling my other apps if it would affect my chances. basically i just added cal and sd because all i had to do was check two more boxes...boo, it definitely would be nice to keep my other options open though...
