OOPS I didn't mean "planned grades" or "in progress grades," I simply meant courses in progress and courses planned for summer.

how much of a differrence do you think a a 3.80 GPA versus 3.82 or 3.85 GPA is in regards to acceptance to UCB's impacted programs?(HAAS, engineering, etc.)

Do you think those hundreth of a points matter that much.?

i dont think they matter, when they have to make a decision on someone who is relatively close, say a 3.8 and a 3.9 gpa, basically the essay will play a big factor (and completed work).

xxkidofemericaxx - Right, you apply during the fall of one year to attend the next fall (the fall of the next year). For me for example, I am finishing 2 of my major requirements and 2 classes to satisfy the IGETC during this semester (spring 2007). The UCs will not see my spring 2007 grades until after they decide whether I'm admitted or not. I am applying for fall 07.

The fall 2006 grades are the most recent ones that they get a report of before they make decisions! Think about it, they make decisions by the end of April and we don't even have final spring grades till May/June.

Again, in that little timeline I wrote up, I didn't mean that you ever tell them any planned grades, I meant planned courses and courses in progress. You are never asked to report anticipated grades.

I believe some schools allow you to finish up requirements during the summer before the fall term you're applying for, some may want them done by the end of the spring. I think that might apply to the minimum 60 semester unit requirement as well. Not sure how that goes for different UCs, but I do remember my counselor mentioning something about it.

fall 06 arent really the final grades, i just updated my application yesterday to post the winter intersession grades lol :p

xferstd-they have no preference over each other whatsoever.

even in an extremely impacted major?

thanks for the responses by the way

Ohh I guess it's different for the quarter system. I'm on the semester system and the last grades they will see of mine before they make decisions for me are my fall 2006 grades.

zemookmook- How can differences, even subtle ones, in GPA not matter? The UC gets thousands of almost identical applicants, ANY way in which one can get an edge over another is significant.

I found this kinda interesting

they released a preliminary report of the amount of applicants for fall so now we all know how many people we are competing with this year. I thought it was kinda interesting to see that UCB was the only UC that had an increase in transfer applications everone else had a decrease.

thanks!
too bad they dont have transfer profiles

awesome, looks like we are all getting into UCLA and getting rejected from CAL!

^You're looking at the wrong column. For 06-07, Transfer apps rose at Berkeley, LA, and Irvine.

Oh ya I just checked the graphs. Looks like a lot of schools had an increase in transfer applicants. :(

Smith: UCB's most impacted program, Haas, has few "real" applicants. Only 340 students qualify for review, and 90 are offered admission. I presume that they are able to look at each applicant more holistically with such low numbers. 3.85 and 3.8 should make a slight difference, depending on which one of those grades were in your core transfer courses (core courses are valued the most).

lol. if you say so. if you're gonna psych yourself out based on minute manipulations on GPA, then be my guest. I'm not one to say that i'm getting in, but i will definitely say that there are levels of acceptance, with 4.0 being the highest and 3.9 downward, and as the levels decrease, the offers of admission decrease as well. I wouldnt worry too much personally about hundreths of a gpa point when you're applying. Consider this: My school goes off of plus minus grading. all of yours dont. I have a significantly larger amount of units then some people, and some people have even more units then I do. Dont you think..there's a reason, why they simply just straight up ask for the GPA at the bottom of your transcript? Furthermore, yes, they look at grades in core competencies, and yes, it does advantage you if you complete more of them in the process before the deadline, but it does not DISadvantage you if you do not. there's a lot of hype surrounding this process. Whether or not you get in can seriously just be the roll of the dice.

Just wanna tell everyone here that we are now exactly half way through the waiting process (started December 1) and we just need to wait another 2 monthes and 15 days until the decisions are out released.

Cheers to everyone, update your grade if you haven't yet. All we gotta do is wait now; the most important semesters/quarters are all over now. Have fun in your last semester/quarter at your ccc/uc/csu/wherever you are transferring from, and hope we all get the good news on May.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

AMEN to that dhl3. This is my last semester as a Community College student!

is it just me or does poli sci seem hella competitive this year

Thank's dhl3, I can't believe that in 6 months I'm going to be moving to some undetermined school. I've lived in SF my whole life. I'm looking forward to this.

^ wow It just hit me.
