University of California Transfer Students Fall 2007 OFFICIAL THREAD!!!

just a question.

for those of you who are IGETC certified, did you send any notification to UCLA? I asked my school about how to notify UCLA about my IGETC certification, and they told me that I send it along with the transcript (in the transcript request form, there's a box that I need to check if I'm IGETC certified) and should wait until UCLA requests a transcript from me. Well I know that won't happen until after I get my decision (which will be on May).

Should I wait until then? I asked my school if it's logical to send my transcript now, and they told that UCLA will most likely throw it away and be a waste of $5 for me (it costs $5.00 to request an official transcript) that won't be such a good idea.

How's your school handling the IGETC certification?

For IGETC you just had to check the box on the UC application. They will verify it when you turn in your transcripts. I know that my school said it would take 6 weeks to process IGETC certification though so I already started the paperwork with them awhile ago.

What's the difference between simply checking IGETC on the app and doing the long process with forms to get officially IGETC certified? I figure if you take the classes it shouldn't matter if you're "Certified" or not... I'm not even done with IGETC till the end of this semester and that's after they make decisions.

Well the UC isnt going to look up which classes qualified for IGETC so your cc has to sign off that you did in fact take the right curriculum. As long as you marked it on the application and have it when you send in your final transcript you should be fine. It is kind of like when you report your grades they use that to make the decision but they do verify them when the transcripts come in.

My counselor told me that you only get IGETC cert after you are accepted and then you go in and they submit it directly to the school you chose to go too. Just like transcripts.

Ok I'm back from a long day visiting Berkeley and I was able to get some answers to a few of your questions.

Q: Do UC campuses share application and admittance info with eachother and will it effect us if we apply to more than one top-tier school?

A: "Although we cannot speak for other campuses, Berkeley does not share it's applicant info with other schools. Disclosure is involved and information is sent from the main application to the various campuses separately. Acceptance at other UC's have no effect on our decisions."

(by the way, I had lunch with a student who was accepted to 4 of the 5 UC's she applied to including UCLA & she chose Berkeley, which did not hinder her, so don't cancel those apps!)

Lostincode:
Q: How many if any spaces in Channing Bowditch are reserved for transfer students?
A: They do not reserve spots for transfer students. First priority is given to continuing students and if there are spaces available, then they offer the remaining spaces to transfer students apts there. However, I am happy to note that she said the application period has passed for continuing students and that there will definately be some spots available for transfer students. Also housing is guaranteed for transfer students at one of several locations near the campus.

Q: When do they start mailing Regent Letters?
A: For transfer students, May 1st officially. (not sure what that means?)

Q: If we chose to enroll, when can we meet w/ an advisor?
A: Immediately after you receive notice that you are accepted. However, they strongly suggest going to CALSO during the summer. They have a few of them and it's basically student orientation days where there are allot of activities and they help you sign up for classes.

The other questions such as whether or not they reject 4.0 transfer students and if supplemental forms are requested for Haas, they would not directly give me any info on that. However, I asked a few students in the office and they said rarely does a transfer student w/ a GPA like that get rejected and most applicants are req addtl forms for Haas. However keep in mind that those two questions were only answered by third party people and I don't know how accurate that is.

Interesting side note:
* All transfer and freshmen students get free season tickets to CAL football.
* One of the Halls doubles as a theater and they often show new realease movies there free to the students before they are released to the public theaters.

Just trivia, but I thought that was cool.

For those of you who requested pics of the campus.. I have them at:
<a href="http://www.slatemixedmedia.shutterfly.com%5B/url%5D">http://www.slatemixedmedia.shutterfly.com</a></p>

oh and xfrstd:
the adcoms said they loved your gift basket...lol,lol

Thanks for the info

Damnit, I should've sent them a gift basket too. :P

Thanks for the info and pics!

I know...huh? why didn't I think of that?? I should have taken xfrstd's basket and try to pass it off as my own when I was there...hee,hee...=)

thanks for the info, but i wanted to know about the 4.0 in the arts and sciences, not haas!! lol

I know, those were two separate answers conbined into one sentance. Two people asked me about 4.0 students and one person asked about Haas and since UCb reps would not give me straight answers on those I put those questions together into one response. Sorry about the confusion.

awesome

thanks for the info!!!!

no problem, anytime...
you know what, I should have taken pictures of the protestors who have been sitting up in the trees by the stadium since December 1st, then everyone would get a true sense of Berkeley...
<a href="http://cbs5.com/education/local_story_022143338.html%5B/url%5D">http://cbs5.com/education/local_story_022143338.html</a></p>

yes, and they are still there

lol, people are funny!

Ahhhhhhh Berkeley...you gotta love it =)

I have a feeling cal will start emailing regent letters in april

i spoke to keith schoon who i believe is the director of CC transfers or something and he told me about occasions where 4.0 students were rejected from haas as well as other majors.... i think those people relied to heavily on the fact that they had 4.0s and their essays probably showed this...but if you have a 4.0 and your drive and determination is articulated in your essay, there shouldnt be any reason that they would reject such an applicant

cal professor gets owned: <a href="http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3761454824743281650&hl=en%5B/url%5D">http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3761454824743281650&hl=en</a></p>

I did find out something really interesting the other day. I was in a transfer workshop last week for several of the UCs and they said that there are only two of them that actually read transfer students essays. That is UCB & UCLA. The rest of them do not even read your essay, but then they went on to say that you should still try to write a good essay because the scholorship commitees often req to view them regardless of which campus.

HEY!
i got this e-mail on Friday
