luvtolearn - My counselor at CCSF said the same thing, that the only campuses that read the essays are UCLA and CAL. I thought he was exagerating, but I guess not.

lostincode - That teacher is bluffing, otherwise he would have tracked the student already. Also, the student is going to opt not to turn themself in, and then they are going to destroy the computer.

I agree, they can only track the computer itself, so as long as the person used public access points, all they have to do is destroy the computer and get rid of it. Now if the person used it from home using their own network, then there is a problem. Also the partial image of the person will not hold up in court because not only is it circumstantial it does not clearly identify the user.
Pretty interesting story

If I were the teacher, I wouldn't brag about what I could do, I'd just do it. I would get the FBI on the case and then prosecute the person to the fullest extent of the law. I believe the teacher is making empty threats , and if they aren't empty threats, then they helped the thief get away.

bearclaw,
I got that a while back but it was way before the deadline. Then after a few days, everything was updated.
You should prbably log on to check and make sure there is a date next to all your updated forms and also call UCB just to make sure there was not a problem with your update.

i think they're just starting to weed out incomplete applications right now so they can start making final decisions... try luvtoolearn's suggestion.

quuuestion:
i sent in a request for a fee waiver (letter, not online) sometime in january. they replied during the first week of february; they ended up saying i'm not eligible, but they'd be willing to give me some time to figure out my financial situation and that they'd send out another bill in a few weeks. the new bill hasn't come yet, but i know that i'm narrowing it down to just ucd... so i went to the app status site a few minutes ago to pay, but now a "no balance due confirmation" shows up that says "no application processing fee is due at this time."

do you guys think that means they cancelled my application, or is it more likely that they've decided to waive the fees? i haven't gotten a notice saying that the fee is due / past-due or that my application was cancelled or anything. i'm calling first thing monday, but still... should i be worried?

Monday is a holiday. If you received notice from them this month that they would give you some time and send you a bill, then I wouldn't worry too much because it has only been a few weeks since then and I think cancelling your application is pretty drastic. I would call monday and tuesday mornings!

I did find out something really interesting the other day. I was in a transfer workshop last week for several of the UCs and they said that there are only two of them that actually read transfer students essays. That is UCB & UCLA. The rest of them do not even read your essay, but then they went on to say that you should still try to write a good essay because the scholorship commitees often req to view them regardless of which campus.

A UCD rep told me the same thing when I told him my GPA. They only use essays for borderline applicants.

P.S. At least 2/3 of what that Cal prof said was BS.

Oh that guy. All he did was convince the thief how valuable a copy of the material on the computer is, and convince them that they should destroy the computer after duplicating the hard drive.

Last year they released alot of decisions on March 1st...

And I know that they are already reviewing transfer applications, as I received a message from an admissions counselor asking me about a small error on my application.
