Ok, so I am a Junior and want to know which UC’s I could probably get into?
School: Miramonte (Top 10 in California)
GPA: 3.6 (3.5 non-weighted)(average strength of classes)
SAT: 1980 (1320 Equivalent)
Sports: 4 year Varsity Tennis (top 15 team in state)
Job: Summer Tennis Job
Charity: None yet (will do this summer)
X-Factor: Lived in England for 10 years
Do you think that is good enough to get into UCSB or the other UC’S?

With a 3.6? Average admit GPA at UCLA is over 4.0 and it's 3.9 (probably 4.0) this year at UCSB. The good SAT scoce will help and good SATIIs will help even more, but I'd have to call these schools reaches.

I honestly think I have no chance at UCLA and Berk, but I think I have a decent chance at UCSB.

The average gpa of people that went there this year was 3.7 (the average admitted gpa was 4.0). Plus my SAT should be about 50-100 points higher than average on the New SAT.

I'd have to agree with zagat. UC admissions is very, very GPA-focused. They might take your high school's competitive grading into consideration, but you can't count on it. The top 3 UCs are out of reach, the middle 3 are reach-match.

You can apply to all the UCs that you want, and they all use the same application and essays.

Class of 2008, I applied with the followig stats: 3.6uw (3.8w), 32 ACT / 1380 SAT I, 590/680/740 SAT IIs, editor of the paper (2 years), president and awards for drama club (4 years), lots of volunteering, etc. My essays were pretty lame. I am also first gen and low income.

I applied to 4 UCs (warning: I accidentally applied as an impacted L&S major because CC reported often that L&S majors aren't impacted...), and here were the results:

I would say you have a good chance at UCSB. But depending on your major it could vary. If it is engineering, then it could be a match/reach, but if it is something else, I would say you have a good chance.

well referring to ucsd and even ucd...I dunno if ud consider them matches. Based on their point system which exist online and your stats it woudl definitely be a reach. otherwise i completely agree with the first poster. UCSB shoudl like you a lot tho. U seem to match the school well. All you need is a crap load of community service hours and some leadership and u shud be set. good luck son... o ya how trippy is this new sat point system...a 1600 is crappy lol.

Icarus: It does matter and it does exist. It's not the same set of majors, but there is a list of "impacted majors" in L&S that exists, in the least, for Berkeley. There are only six, but they are there.

I know why it shouldn't matter; undergrads change their minds, right? They can't expect freshman to pick a major before they take a class and stick with it for four years.

Do you honestly think that they ask for your prospective major purely for advising purposes?

Lol, UCs are very GPA focused yes, but I got into UCLA/UCSD and every UC below that with a 3.2 unweighted GPA. Good test scores do make up for GPA deficiencies. However I did go to a very competitive high school (more competitive that Miramonte).
