University of Chicago Collegiate Scholars Program

So I'm a freshmen and live in Chicago.

I applied to the University of Chicago Collegiate Scholars Program and got in. The accepted amount was 45 students out of 500 applicants.

Its really prestigious, just by the name, (I dont think its really all that great though).

So basically for three summer, six weeks each summer, you take classes/workshops and stuff.
You also have to in like 8 times a year on Saturdays for these stupid trips (salsa, dance, music trips)

Summer 1: You just take some courses taught by professors, no credit. Its pretty useless.
Summer 2: You might be eligible to take a humanities College Bridge Class.
Summer 3: You can probably take a few college bridge class's.

So now, first of all, I like 15 miles away. I would rather not, if its not worth it, go to U of C, everyday for six weeks waking up at like 8, taking the train and coming back at 6, and then do homework. So now the college Bridge Program, it seems useful but you dont have to be in the program to apply to their college Bridge Program; anyone can apply to that.

I'm a boyscout and I need to go summer camping to finish some requirements if I ever want to be an eagle scout. Since this program is for 3 years and you need to finish boyscouts by age 18, I can only do 1 or the other.

See, I had all this in mind before too, I just wanted to apply and see if I got in. I also applied to another program, a lot less prestigious but it is something I would be interested in, its also six weeks but its a one year program. .....I got waitlisted there. I was totally ready to get accepted, they liked my app, interview went well(some ex-fellows, students, interviewed me). So now I dont know what to do

I need to respond to U of C quick and the other one, I have to wait and see what happens.

I really dont think U of C is really all that good, I mean ya just the name itself, it sounds good. But besides that, its pretty much a waste of your summers. I want to do some interships, college bridge classes and other programs that will show colleges that I did something useful. Yet again, a three year program, it will show commitment.

Help.

Anything, any comments?

I think I would call U of C and tell them to give the spot to some one who really wants it.

If that is what you truly feel about the program, then I would not recommend doing it. There are other ways to spend your summers productively.
