University of Chicago vs. UC Berkeley

Hey everyone,

I will be majoring in statistics (I know, rare thing for freshmen to be majoring in), and I'm torn between UChicago and Cal.

Both schools offer stellar statistics departments (their rankings are almost right next to each other), so I know in both places I will get a great education in my major.

But where can I go to get the best preparation in terms of becoming either an actuary or a biostatistician?

Thanks!

University of Chicago will provide the best networking. UCB is too large of a school, professors focused on research and don’t have much time for undergrads, such is not the case with Chicago. Take my opinion with a grain of salt, however.

@tomraskin190: Not true.
U Berkeley requires all professors, including all nobel prize winners and the bigshots, to teach FRESHMEN classes. Berkeley’s math department is one of the best in the nation, and certainly the quality of education is not secondary to that of Chicago’s.

I already chose the University of Chicago. For many reasons. Both schools have insanely famous stats departments, so in that respect, it wasn’t very helpful in my decision. It was other factors. :)
