@chenggongbeitai hey my region is Virginia, USA
And I am actually not submitting an alumni rec, I decided not to. And I just email my regional admissions officer.
Lol, last time in jan I asked my reg counselor a simple question and she took two weeks to reply. Guess theres no
Hope for me
There is always hope @Lanie49
It’s tough guys. Wasnt the statistic saying 3000 on Waltlist and only 100 get off.
@letsgohelpme1 really? Can I have the source please? Honestly, if that’s true that is extremely good!!!
I haven’t sent the LOCI yet. Am I too late? I honestly thought I could just send it in latest by May 1st, but it seems like most of you have already sent the email. I’m kind of worried. And how long should the email be? Should I just mention why I want to attend UChicago and talk about my recent accomplishments? The only annoying part is that I have already sent a similar email in January because I was deferred from the EA decisions. Ugh the struggle.
I really haven’t been active on the UChicago side of college confidential but I just want to let you all know that I just got off the waitlist earlier today. Good luck to the rest or you!
@Paraxat First off, congrats on getting off of the Waitlist to UCHICAGO, it’s such an amazing accomplishment do you have any tips for Waitlisted people like me? It would be amazing if you could share what you did on here or send me a message! I’ve been doing a few things to get off of the waitlist, but given how hard it is, I’m trying to gather more info. I thought Waitlisted poeple would get off after May 1, but I guess I was wrong.
@monkmonk I wish I had much to say, but after getting waitlisted I had thought I was out of luck. I sent a letter of interest through email to my regional counsellor within a day of results. It was just a short paragraph expressing my interest in the school and it asked the question if there was anything else I could do, to let me know. I didn’t receive a response so I had not really done much else. Then out of nowhere my regional counsellor had called me today and offered me a spot. All I can say is that even though if you just sent a short email over, you can still get off the waitlist, therefore, don’t panic if that is all you did.
@Paraxat Congradulations!!! If you don’t mind me asking, what state and major are you?
@Paraxat This is kinda a stupid question, but I sent my letter 11 days after decisions came out, so do you think they accept people on a rolling basis based on when they sent the email to their regional counselors? Also where did your counsellor get your number? I thought they sent emails to accepted students or updated the UChicago portal…
GUESS WHAT GUYS I GOT IN!!! I DIDN’T EVEN DO ANYTHING EXCEPT ACCEPT THE WAIT LIST OFFER!!!
I had my letter all typed up and ready to go and I didn’t even need to send it!!
So here’s what happened:
I checked my phone and apparently missed a call from 703… and then I called back and some lady that is an admissions counselor picked up and then she like asked how my day was and how I’m doing at school and if I am still interested in UChicago. I told her yes. And then she sorta asked if I committed anywhere else and I said no and then she told me I have been offered a spot!!!
Edit: Lol, so now that I’ve calmed down a bit. I live in Georgia and also another guy in my church got in too. He is an English major and I think I put math when I applied.
Another edit: In reflection (hoping to give a reason why we were accepted to help you guys) We both had great stats (I had 2380 SAT/good GPA and his stats a literally perfect). Sorry, I know people hate it when stats are the reason for admission, blah blah, but this is strictly my opinion of course since neither of us sent in any letters of interest/updates. Also, (speaking for myself only now) my extracurriculars and essays are good but defintiely still average which is why i didn’t get accepted at first, so now I think that they are looking for ppl with higher stats or that would “definitely fit academically” (obviously there are other factors and I don’t mean to start a war and debate or anything, but stats and test scores are the easiest determining factor for academical intellect)
@Lanie49 @Paraxat Hey, for those of you admitted, has anything been updated on your UChicago account?
@Lanie49 did they call your cell number or home? And congrats, that is amazing! It’s surprising to see such early waitlist admits, especially since they’re expected to come only next month!
@Lanie49 @Paraxat Congratulations both of you! This is very interesting indeed. I wonder what it all means. Have they realized just now that they’ve so drastically under-enrolled this year that they’re going to start accepting people off the waitlist before May 1?
Do you guys think that this bodes well for the waitlist of 2019 in general, if they’re already extending these “late” acceptance offers?
Just wanted to tell you guys that wherever you’re meant to go, you will end up there. This journey has been difficult, Harvard was my absolute dream school and I was deferred then rejected. Then when Ivy day came, I only got into Cornell. But I think throughout all this, I’ve learned to keep my faith and be happy regardless of college decisions. And that’s the most important part: college decisions don’t define you and you really can be happy wherever if you only let yourself be.
Anyways to answer questions, yes she called my cellphone. I don’t have a home phone and my cell was the only number I put in common app besides parents numbers. Also, according to previous years, the majority of decisions still come first of second week of May.
@Lanie49 Was your UChicago account updated?
@KW1217 My account status changed once I said I was still interested in UChicago after getting off the waitlist
I just emailed today. Am I too late? I was waiting to hear back from the track coach to email but after reading this thread I just sent it today. This is so stressful!!!
