Hi all, to those waiting, check your portals. My S was accepted very late last night (Mechanical Engineering) -no email alerting him about an update of status. He just checked on a lark and got the confetti. He applied 12/30/17. Hoping to get info regarding merit money bc we’re OOS (lol- hoping for an envelope- any size, any color). That was not mentioned on the portal. He was invited to apply to a scholars program. He was wondering if this was a generic FYI thing put out there for all accepted students. When he clicked on it his information was already in it- the option checked off seemed specific to him as it was in line with something he wrote about in one of the optional essays. Good luck to everyone who is anxiously waiting.
@AntHp All of the same for us also.
@mags425- congrats! Hope you hear some more good news soon.
@mcwalk18 @burghdad According to this site, $15K is the max for UD Trustees for OOS http://www.udel.edu/apply/undergraduate-admissions/financing-your-degree/.
Lucky you @mcwalk18 - $19K would make UDel competitive with in-state UMd - My DD got the UD Trustee award but for $15k/year which doesn’t quite make it down to UMd
My S got his snail mail merit scholarship offer and he too got $19K a year - $9,500 a semester, for a total of $76K, so I don’t think it’s an error at this point if two on here have received the same offer. My suspicion is that it is to offset the rise in tuition (seems like the DiScho scholarships go up each year proportional to the rise in tuition as well). But that’s just my guess. We don’t know anything regarding FA, though. So right now as it stands, unless he gets a decent FA package on top of this, he won’t be able to afford attending - unless he is invited to DiScho, which we are eagerly hoping for
@mcwalk18 DS also got the same award, so I don’t think it’s an error. I think they may have raised the Trustees award to keep up with expected rises in tuition. Or maybe their endowments did really well and they raised it accordingly
Should everyone be receiving admissions decisions by now? I submitted my application on 12/27/17, but there was an issue with my transcript delivery; therefore, they received my transcript on 1/22/18.
I applied on December 1st and received an e-mail stating I should hear something by March 15th. Ugh!
@moosiechica88 what are your sons stats?
@moosiechica88 also I don’t disagree that they might want to increase top amount to reflect higher tuition. On the other hand I would be surprised if the top amount for 2018 admissions awarded to the early applicants in November of 2017 was 15,000 and suddenly for this notified of admission in 2018 it is now 19k.
Maybe We will get the happy news that the top merit award is increased however if not and the top is now 19k udel will be off our list.
@mcwalk18 can you post your students stats? If udel has increased the maximum amount of trustee scholarship I would like to know.
My OOS daughter admitted 11/3 and got what was the top published trustees scholarship of 15k per year or 60k total. If they are now giving 19k per year or 76k total top trustees amount I want to know so I can contact the school and see if my daughter can get that amount.
@burghdad great question. Interested to know the results too. My DD got the $15k and I thought that was the max except for DS. I know your D18 has even higher stats so it would be nice to know what’s happening.
@burghdad Academic stats are: 35 ACT (36-36-34-35), 4.0 GPA (UW/Weighted is the same bc it’s out of 100 and weight is a fraction of a percentage point - though he MIGHT be up on the 4.2 now because he is getting a lot of A+ on AP classes this year so far). School does not rank but he is one of the top three students at a very academically rigorous prep school (went there on a HUGE four-year scholarship). NMSF, US Presidential Scholar candidate, Yale Book Award, Elks MVS state level, Cum Laude Society inductee, National Latin Honor Society. I’m sure I’m forgetting something… I know he’s moving up to states in some big-named math competition, but I don’t think that happened in time to include in his application.
Extracurricular stats are: Recruited rower, MVP and co-captain of varsity rowing (V1 boat all three years of Varsity), three-sport Varsity athlete, doubled up on sports Fall and Winter (rowing/soccer in Fall, rowing/swim in Winter). SWAT leader (mentorship program), Honors committee representative, Senior class representative, co-founder of the fall rowing team and two clubs. Multiple athletic awards and regional/state medals for rowing. Hundreds of volunteer hours, Peer tutor, Big/Little mentor. And I seriously doubt it matters at UD, but he’s an URM.
He waived his right to read his letters of recommendation, but he is extremely well-regarded and respected at his school by both faculty and students. And his GC has a REALLY great working relationship with UD admissions.
He LOVES the school - even though it’s the farthest from home - but without a DiScho award, I don’t know if it’s going to be affordable to us BUT we haven’t gotten the full FA package yet, so we shall see…
I too agree that it would be odd if they offered one amount as the top scholarship and then a higher amount to other kids. But I went back to the website and it says “Typical Amount Awarded” so it may be that the common awards are between $13 and $15K, but they reserve a few higher awards??? Not really sure, sorry
The letter reads as follows:
Dear S18,
Congratulations on your admission to the University of Delaware. On behalf of the Scholarship Committee, I want to commend you on earning the prestigious UD Trustee Scholarship in the total amount of $76,000 over four years in recognition of our academic and personal achievements…
And then it goes on to explain that it will be given as $9500 every semester as long as he continues to meet the requirements.
@burghdad I think it must have been an error, as my stats certainly aren’t high enough to exceed the trustee scholarship limit. My UW GPA is 3.92, and my ACT score is a 32.
When you say “portal” are you referring to the “My Blue Hen Home”?
Received acceptance on line Friday 2/2. Received Yellow acceptance letter in mail yesterday 2/5. How long after that did you all have to wait to hear about scholarship money in the mail?
@mags425 it was 2-3 weeks for us
@mags425 My DD got the admissions scholarship notification within the portal notification of admission - so, at the same time as admission.
@mags425 My daughter’s merit letter for the Trustee Scholarship ($15K) arrived two months after acceptance so it seems there is no typical time frame; although many kids seemed to get them wthin the two week time period. Frankly I think her file got lost or something, she had to contact them several times before they admitted they needed to resend her financial award (she’s a 34 ACT 4.55 wtd gpa). Her portal hasn’t been updated since November 16th other than a link to apply for World Scholars and Fellows & Scholars.
I am now at week 10 of submitting my application and week 9 of it becoming complete. No news at all. I called admissions to ask if they needed my mid year grades or anything of the sort as I have not heard anything, and all she said was that I should send them in as they MAY need them later on. Becoming very aggravated as I was told I would hear “early in the New Year”…
