I really want to attend the University of Edinburgh. I currently attend an international school in Asia doing the IB program. The minimum IB score on their website is a 34. I currently have a 31, but I am not sure if I can pull it up enough to get to a 34. I was looking at the minimum ACT/SAT scores. The minimum SAT is 1290, I’m close but not quite there with 1260. However, the minimum score for the ACT is a 27, which I do have. If I send my ACT score I need to score a 650 on two subject tests which I think is quite possible for literature and world history. So should I send my IB scores or my SAT/ACT? I have heard that if you meet the minimum requirements for SAT/ACT you are almost guaranteed admission, especially if applying for a humanities subject. Is this true or somewhat true? Which scores should I submit for the best chance of admissions?
Your IB score is too low.
You will need to send your act scores and at least two but preferably three sat subject scores (pick from: foreign language, English literature, world history, us history).
You will have to disclose all your scores on UCAS. You will most likely need more than 650 on sat tests to secure admission, considering the rest of your scores. What course are you applying for and do you have safeties in mind?
Yea as of right now my IB is too low, but IF I get all three points from the core or get 2 points for the core and bring my grade up in one for a total of 34 would it be good to send? If I do get the the 34 should I send the IB or the ACT and SAT subject test scores?
Political Science or history. Yes I have safeties, but Edinburgh is my first choice.
History in particular is one of the most selective courses. Meeting the minimum requirement to be considered is unlikely to result in Admissions.
How many test dates are there in your country for SATs before April? I would take 3 SATs. That would be easier than waiting for your IB scores. Make sure to schedule an interview in person with admissions team. They visit many asian countries. Check international admission page on Edi’s website for details.

On the other hand, being a full-pay international to a Scottish uni (which have no restrictions on the number of full-pay internationals they may take any more) . . .
If you are applying this fall and are in your final year of IB you have to send all your scores and tell them of scores yet to come. Be aware that UK schools may make the offer contingent on scores to come even if you already have some others done that meet minimum. For example, my daughter had a 730 subject test in chemistry from her sophomore year and entered that and that she was taking IB HL chemistry and the AP Chemistry test in May of senior year. Edinburgh gave her a conditional offer with the condition being a 5 in HL chemistry.
