University of Florida 2025 — Regular Decision

Sounds right when projecting the # of incompletes at FSU to UF.
I think that looking at the middle 50% recalculated GPA will be a better indicator of whether there was a change in the strength of the class than SAT/ACT.
If GPA does decline, that tells me that some people that would have likely been accepted in past years did not due to no test scores. I find it hard to believe that this cohort is not as smart as previous ones. It is more likely that not making it test optional prevented some from not being accepted that probably would have if they were able to take the tests multiple times.

I don’t disagree. I just think having a higher percentage of applications that won’t be considered will result in a higher acceptance percentage for students with completed applications. Clearly their chances would be higher because so many are getting shut out. The middle 50% of test scores may also drop. But I’m certainly not saying that the caliber of students will drop.

You are very proactive to send in the official scores. They will ask for those anyway once she is admitted. Good luck!

I am just scrolling thru this thread and wondering about my sons chances as well. He is OOS with 3.98 UW and a 35 ACT. His counselor pegged UF as a safety for him but now I am beginning to wonder!! I guess he will know next week!

@VirginiaBelle Unless his essay is embarrassingly terrible and he has never participated in anything ever, I think he is safe!

Ok I am going throw another curve ball!!! I have many OOS friends’ kids that got the Seminole pathway (never even heard of it before) with the similar GPA’s and range scores as the Florida kids that got in for Summer B.

UCF just sent out a ton of acceptances after getting first semester grades in.

So what do you make of that? I have my opinion about the test optional, but don’t get me started.

@VirginiaBelle i agree, your kid sounds like a future Gator

I have no clue. I know state law mandates how many oos are allowed to attend our in state universities. I think it’s around 10%.

Is that true? UF says it not. Personally I would like to think so, but then I have also heard the state wants the OOS higher tuition.

Safety any year. Most especially this year.

@tsbna44 what do you mean safety?

OOS was 17% for Class 2023. The admission was 41% for OOS and 46% for in state then. It’s much more friendly for OOS than many other state universities.

Virginia Belle told her son Florida is a safety for her son. It is in my opinion.

It’s funny people chase UF due to rank. No one knows but I believe because UF is not test optional it could fall. The reason is their test scores will likely fall a bit. The schools, like UGA that are TO, have higher scores because some students don’t submit.

I do worry people chase rank. Because if UF fell to say #40 people might get upset. I hope people find the right school, not just the one US News says is best. Yesterday on the FSU board someone said they will go to Arkansas. I’m glad someone chose the right school for them, not just the highest ranked one they got into.

@flprepaidmom North Carolina and Texas have actual laws on the books that say they must admit a certain percentage of in state kids. In fact UT Austin guarantees the top 5% of its high school graduates admission. Imagine that. If UF said graduate in the top 5% of your class and don’t stress, just work hard throughout high school, learn something and achieve a goal. What a great idea!

I don’t think we have that law on the books in writing.

Click on the link I posted I think the Florida rules are xplained there

@tsbna44 UF has been a great school since the late 80’s early 90’s. I don’t care about US News.

Our schools are the best value in the country. Our in state tuition is one of the lowest in the country. Our OOS is one of the lowest.

Florida has its good and bad. I am not thrilled about the amount of Online classes - prior to Covid. Not loving Pace and Innovation. I think it’s time to renovate some of the dorms. One I lived in in 1991, ugh!

But all in all we are lucky to have what we have.

While the volume of OOS admissions is cumulative for the FL state schools, I do know that UCF does have a program that guarantees admission for resident students based upon several factors. Here’s the link:
