University of Florida 2025 — Regular Decision

The lower tuitions at Florida schools offer great ROI for OOS students, not even to mention the Benacquisto Scholarship.

What I find very interesting is UCF has done an amazing job pr wise getting more OOS kids where USF (where my s24 goes and is transferring) does not. It’s sad bc I know USF has an amazing medical program. They just really screwed up this year.

Glad u see that. I think many are chasing the ‘it’s next after uva and unc’ thing.

I’ve read on the board about all the on line classes ? What’s up with them doing that ? That doesn’t sound like attending college. If my daughter is admitted and she likes it after visiting I will have to look deeper into that. That doesn’t sound optimal college experience wise.

@tsbna44 I think there are a few majors that are probably at the top, buts it no Michigan. UVA and UNC can’t even chase Michigan. Michigan was the only other school to ask for some score. If you really couldn’t take an SAT or ACT they wanted your PSAT or AP scores.

We have talented 20 in Florida

Bingo !

Can you tell me more about the online class thing in UF or FSU as well? is it for a certain term admit?
also us news ranks UF as high as it does. I dont think its comparable to say a UNC or UVA or way out of the league for umich. what couls t be compared closely to. OOS so comparing.
thanks

I was reading another thread about going OOS, I did not realize how many colleges still have no live classes. What are we hearing about classes in the fall? Any thoughts?

The country will most likely open up fully by June as that is when we will reach herd immunity. Hopefully, colleges will move decision day back so we have time to visit campuses.

The comment to was made about UF does a lot online normally so even pre covid. Not because of covid. That’s what I am trying to learn about. Others have made a similar comment.

His essay is strong and unique to him - worked on it for months. He is not the most involved but does have some EC and volunteer hours - he plays a year round sport so that is most of his time outside school. He has had good luck so far so crossing fingers!

It was my son’s college counselor who put it in the safety group for him, not me  This year is so crazy it is hard to guess! He is in UGA, Alabama, Clemson (last two with merit) and deferred from Georgia Tech and UVA. Rejected UNC which was expected. He has some great choices but he wants to study business so UF is definitely in the mix. He applied to 7 schools which I thought was plenty but seems like it is on the low end this year!

Depends on major. For business UVA is ranked slightly higher than Ross. However Ross can be direct admit which is huge. Michigan was too cold for my southern kid! Do you know the number of applications they got? My oldest applied 2 years ago and there were 40k early applications. He got in early but they seemed to defer most applications due to volume. Very few rejections EA. Wonder if it has changed?

Who really knows at this time, right ? … certainly it is and will vary greatly by state & if the school is private or public. I’d start with the the COVID dashboard of a particular school and related statements from the administration as a gauge. That said, living in FL we have been aware for years that UF offers more remote courses than expected (even when one does not want them and even upper level). It’s something that we have heard parents/families express surprise & disappointment about but have no idea how widespread it is. It just was never an environment that appealed to our girls so cannot speak from personal experience. On the positive side, I presume they were super prepared for transition to remote learning & certainly the school has many other strong qualities going for it beyond this one …

I would not think twice and go to Georgia ! (and I’m from Florida - tho not an alum) No. Question. At. All. UGA is fabulous. Business not ENG at Georgia Tech ? Sorry, Hmmmm …

Your response to her post brings me great comfort.

Georgia Tech has an excellent business school - ranked much higher than UGA (GT has a top 10 undergrad business school according to Poets and Quants) and much better for Finance majors. They also have much better job placement particularly out of state. Plus UGA is too close to home which is his biggest hesitation. Frankly I think he would be happy at either and will be successful at any of the ones he is in already . . .

Top 10 undergrad business programs per Poets and Quants which has their finger on the pulse:

Wharton
UVA
NYU
Michigan
Georgetown
UNC
Notre Dame
CMU
Cornell
Georgia Tech

Well there you go ! I’m certain he will thrive wherever he decides to plant the next few years. Everyone usually ends up loving where they end up. Lots of great choices … regardless of “ranks”.

Again, I take rankings w grain of salt … although it yields some good information. However, this year about 90 schools responded to the survey and submitted data for consideration - notably missing are BC & UC Berkeley. For some reason they did not make it a priority to do so.
