University of Florida 2025 — Regular Decision

I just called admissions to confirm what we already knew. Other than the NMF that Melissa noted, all other scholarships have been distributed.

That’s what I figured…good to have it totally verified.

Yeah, I didn’t mean to complicate things by getting into UGA issues. Guess we are done with this board, congrats to all!

My son has pretty good stats and was accepted to UF Honors and didn’t get any merit yesterday. He didn’t apply to UCF, but got the $9600 scholarship from FSU. I was wondering, do they not offer merit to in-state people who are already going to have everything covered by Bright Futures?

Has anyone gotten an email about housing? I thought that was opening today.

I would think that most In State students that get accepted to UF are receiving BF. So, I don’t believe that Merit Scholarships are related to BF at all. My son received a Presidential Scholarship last year and also has BF.

What everyone needs to remember is that UF gives very little merit to In State students. That is just the way it is. As I posted earlier today, in 2019 they offered merit to about 350 In State students out of 28,000 that applied and 7,900 that were accepted. That is 4.4% of those accepted, 1.2% of those that applied. Nobody should be surprised that they did not get Merit.

FYI, for anyone who is watching what is happening with SB86. Looks like the senate education committee will meet at 3:30PM EST and the first item on the agenda is SB86. Also, you may be able to Watch it if you are interested. :crossed_fingers:

Heard back from Jessica at the scholarship office. She said although she cannot make any guarantees about state funding, the school has “every expectation” that the scholarship will continue to be funded. She also seemed to not be aware of the proposed changes, however, so take that as you will.

I got my email from housing at 2:18pm EST

We did.

Do we have to pay the $225 advance rent payment when we complete the housing agreement? I have read that if you cancel the agreement before May 1st you must pay $125. Does this mean I’ll be down $350 if I choose not to attend UF?

Same question. We will wait til after Saturday.

No. The way it works is you pay $225 advance rent now. If you cancel before 5/1 they give you $125 back, so its basically a $100 cancel fee.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to watch the hearing, but I can’t find a link that allows for that. Do you see one?

4.2.1.2 Student is an incoming or newly-admitted student to University, but Student notifies University Admissions that Student will not be attending the University. If such notification and a written request to cancel the Agreement is submitted to the Department on or before May 1, 2020, cancellation fee shall be $125.00; if such notification and Agreement cancellation request is submitted after May 1, 2020, cancellation fee shall be $225.00.

No, I dot have a URL, but since it says “Watch Today’s Committee Meeting at 3:30 PM” on the Committee page (https://www.flsenate.gov/committees/show/ED), I figured they will give a link around 3:30PM on that page. Hope that helps!

According the education committee meeting packet “[SB86]Specifies that the 2021-2022 academic year is the final year of initial eligibility for nonresident students to qualify for the Benacquisto Scholarship Program, and modifies the award to as specified in the GAA.”

So complete the agreement by 3/30 and pay $225. If you withdraw before 5/1 you lose $125, if you withdraw after 5/1 you lose the entire $225? Do I have that right?
