University of Florida or Johns Hokins

Need opininon on choosing between Engineer undergrad at UF versus JHU?
I got almost nothing $ from JHU

If you would be near full pay at JHU & paying in-state rate at Florida, then Florida is the wiser choice based on the scant info. shared in your post.

But is there a big difference in level of education and name recognition between the two choice ?

What is the cost difference ? What type of engineering course of study ?

Looking at mechanical engineer or bio Medical. Related to cost it will be a 10k for UF versus 50k for JHU

JHU is the top ranked biomedical engineering program in the US.

Florida is great for bio-ag.

For mechanical, save your money & go to UF.

Thank !

Is 50k each year for four years pocket change for your family? Then JHU is a nice treat that is OK for them to buy you.

If it is not pocket change, and would require someone taking on debt that is equivalent to a home mortgage, then NO. That is not OK. Go to UF if that 10k each year is what you can afford.

If you can’t afford UF, start at a FL community college, then transfer to UF to finish your degree.

Engineers who are starting their careers do not get paid more because of the name on their diploma. Your initial salary will be the same graduating from UF and from JHU. After that, what you have done on your job will determine how you advance in your career, again the university on your diploma won’t matter.

@Joedavid, I understand how hard this decision is. JHU is a prestigious university with a renowned engineering school. That said, as someone who paid her own way through college, I think I would recommend UF. You do not want to begin your professional life saddled with so much debt. As I had learned, there are no future guarantees in earnings. However, if you thought your parents’ financial circumstances were like to change due to retirement, etc., then I would consider more carefully.
