University of Houston- Admissions Chances?????

I applied to UH this March, after deciding that Houston was my ideal college location and that UH looked like a great school.

With a 60% acceptance rate, it’s not terribly difficult, but not terribly easy to get into either.

Im an Out-Of-State application with a GPA of 3.85 and an SAT of 1180. I don’t meet their traditional admissions standards, (not being from Texas) so I’m worried that my app will be judged harder because of this.

Do my chances look good?

Thanks!!!

I can’t tell you what your chances are, but your test scores are within the middle 50% of admitted students so they are fine (see CDS below). UH does not judge OOS students harder than in state. They are currently working to bring in OOS kids to broaden the geographic diversity of the school. My S was accepted for this fall and they have been extremely receptive and welcoming to him. He is still undecided.

We flew down from NYC to go to the Honors College open house and the engineering school admitted students day and both events were excellent.

Remember that if you are awarded an Academic Excellence Scholarship of $1,000 or more, you automatically qualify for in-state tuition - this is a huge deal. My S got the award and his total UH cost is currently much lower than SUNY.

Good luck!
