University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

I'm currently a sophomore in high school.
I have a 3.8 GPA.
When I took the practice ACT, my predicted actual ACT score was 31+.
As for extracurriculars, I am a part of Class Council, Newspaper, Rotary Club, and I am a freshman mentor.
I also volunteer frequently every other week.
What are my chances of getting into UIUC majoring in Biological Engineering?
And if I don't have good chances, could you guys please tell me what I need to do?

Also, I live in Illinois… if that helps at all.

I’d say your chances are very good. Keep doing what you’re doing- concentrate on keeping up the GPA and if you study and retake the ACT, a 33 will get you reviewed for their Honors classes. I will share my son’s major hint at taking the ACT- he got a 34 without paying for prep courses and is admitted to UIUC, James Honors with a scholarship- he bought an ACT practice test book, did “real life” test conditions by using a watch and timing himself for several of the tests. He also started at the back of the test, so by the time he was feeling tired he was at the easier questions and could make a quicker guess, if he was running out of time! You are only a Sophomore, so you have plenty of time to take the test. Maybe in the Spring of Junior year? That gives you practice time over the summer- then and once more in Fall, if needed?

Good luck.

Try to raise your GPA and ACT score a little bit for a better chance. For in state student, I think you should have a reasonable chance already. However, the engineering at UIUC is rather competitive and you are now near the 25%. Higher score and GPA would definitely help. Note that UIUC does not accept recommendation letters, so your GPA, scores and essays are all very important for admission.

Thank you both so much!!
