University of Maryland C/O 2020 Discussion

I got it

Just got accepted to a living learning environment. Dam they come out quick

@Coldsummer123 Did you get an email?

@LkL5789 yes I did

@coldsummer123 what do you mean a living and learning environment?

@ClassOf2020x It’s the honors program

@coldsummer123 oh it’s that thing. Scholars have it too, but no word from UMD yet about the status of our applications.

Do any of you guys know what admitted student day is like? I signed up, but I don’t know if it’s worth going. I’m feeling so lazy recently. Senioritis hitting me hard. Is it fun or are they just going to talk about things I’ll prob already know about the endless student life opportunities and etc?

Oh my, yes, you def want to go to admitted student day. When you visit schools, you are mostly paying attention to what they look for in the admissions process.

When you go to admitted students day, that is no longer a concern, so you can actually focus on what the school has to offer you compared to what other schools can offer. You will get far more interesting and relevant information about the school, and you will be more likely to talk to random students and get a “temperature” of the student body to help you assess if you can see yourself fitting in.

Do you really think you know all about the “endless student life opportunities” that Maryland has to offer? Would you buy a car just from looking at a brochure? This is a HUGE financial investment, not to mention it will be your home for the next four years.

You got senioritis? While not every high school may offer it, but in my neck of the woods, a college visit is considered an excused absence! Hello day off from school!!! Just be sure to get a stamped visit confirmation when you go so you have it as proof to turn in to your school.

@maryversity Thanks so much! Guess I’m going :slight_smile:

DS got offered The Dean’s Scholarship. Not much, compared to what UMBC offered, but hubby and I appreciate every single penny!

@JGCStation Congratulations!

When do Regular decisions come out? UMD says by April 1st but do they begin to come out before that?

@PKnudts Usually yes

Just got an email notifying me that I got into my first choice Scholars program YAY! I’m in the Business, Society, and Economy program. Anyone else in this?

It’s official my daughter paid her deposit last night. We have been going to accepted student days for the past few weekends. On our way home from Penn State she told us she had made up her mind and was choosing UMD.

Yay! Great decision! Welcome to Terp Nation!

My son did not get into engineering, but was accepted into the Scholars Science, Technology, and Society Living Learning Community. My understanding is that all the STS students will live in The Cambridge Community. Does this mean that there is no rush to sign up for housing if that’s the dorm the website says STS students all will live in? Thanks for any insight!

No, you should still sign up to reserve a spot for him. There is no deposit required and the only obligation is to tell them if you decide to not attend so that they can release the room to someone else.

My son did STS also. While my son was a direct admit to engineering, he had a good friend that wasn’t, but was in STS with him. They had a blast living in Chestertown because it is a smaller dorm, so they really got to know more people. (And yes, his friend is now “officially” in engineering without a hitch and is graduating with him this May.) The advantage of C-town is the proximity to all the math/science buildings so you can sleep later, plus Eppley Rec Center is right behind the dorm so they got to enjoy the convenience for regular workouts.

My daughter was offered entry to Carillon Living and Learning Community. Students reside in Easton Hall. We read everything the UMD website offers but are wondering if anyone has any personal knowledge to share about Carillon or Easton Hall.
