I am a senior now, in Maryland. I really want to go to University of Maryland, College Park. Chance me Please!

GPA-3.3 UW/3.8W (big jump in years, only a 2.9 W and UW in Freshmen)
SAT-760 Math-640 Reading-700 Writing
SAT II's-Bio/Math in Octobre
Extracurriculars- on the bad side
Taking 7 AP classes in total High school. All other classes are Honors. Basically the highest rigor available. Got a 4.0 one semester in Junior year, which is considered the hardest year by far. Did not put in enough effort freshmen year, and was getting better sophomore year.

I’d be very surprised if UMD rejected you. Your SAT score of 1400/2100 is easily in the top quartile of entering students. Your other credentials are average, if not slightly above average for this school. This has to be considered either a “match” to a “safety” for you.

From personal experience, UMCP really looks at applicants’ SAT scores. I knew a student who was top 5% in his class and he was rejected because his SAT score was low (1700-1800)

UMCP is one of those schools that has been getting harder and harder to get in to. You might have a real heart to heart with your guidance counselor who could probably give you a much more realistic view of your chances. We sat in our son’s college counselor’s office and were told that UMCP does not seem to be consistent and its acceptances do not always make sense. What we did find out is that it is important to apply early. UM has more qualified students than it has housing for.

Oh, and depending on where you live, some of UM’s alternative programs might work for you. It offers commuter options where you can only take classes late in the day. There is also a spring admit program. Good luck.
