@schoolemail34 No…there is no preference for OOS students. Most people assume that because OOS tuition is higher, the school has a preference for admitting OOS students to get more money. However, that’s not the case with public state universities. In fact, because they receive funding from the state, they have a requirement of admitting a very high percentage of IS students (around 80% I believe, but don’t quote me). Therefore, because there is a limit to the number of OOS they can admit, the OOS applicants actually need higher stats to be competitive.
@STEM2017 Yes, but only a matter of a few days before, not weeks before. I expect it to be the last week of January (which is same as first week of Feb since Feb 1 is a Wednesday).
I heard January 30th… My school is in NJ and they took 14 kids last year. Very popular school here. I loved it and hope to get accepted into the Robert H. Smith School of Business.
Has anyone else’s “completed date” stopped updating? I’m not worried becuase it had been changing every time I logged in, but has stopped since 12/23. I’m more just curious about everyone else.
I had my teachers submit their letters through Naviance Systems and my UMD page says those are “received” in the “offline documents” section. I had an additional, outside letter submitted through the UMD letter of recommendation system and that one only says: “Submitted”. I did receieve an email notification from UMD that the letter was submitted, but no update on whether it was officially receieved. Will I receieve a notification that it was “received” or does submitted infer that UMD has received the letter. I can’t seem to find any information on this on their website. If anyone can provide some insight, that would be great.
The UMD Admissions Checklist page states “Two letters of recommendation are required for a completed application: one from your school counselor and one from a teacher. Recommendations must be sent to us directly from the recommender.”
They do not require any other LORs, nor are they required to accept/consider any LORs sent in addition to those required. I can’t say that your outside LOR will not be reviewed, but I also see no reason to assume that it will be reviewed. I don’t think there is much you can do about it either way. Good Luck
Hi was wondering if when we find out from Maryland later this month will we also find out if we have received any scholarships and/or financial aid? or will that come at a later date?
hi, if anyone could tell me if I have a decent change of getting into UMD, even for spring 2018 I’d appreciate it!
i have a 3.4 gpa and a 27 ACT, i know these scores are a little low for maryland, but I have a lot of other credentials. I attend the number 1 public school in my county, and the #7 public school in my state. Maryland is a very popular school in my school, 33 out of 42 people got in last year so they like kids from my school. I have been playing piano for 10 years and I play 3 varsity sports, captain of two teams, and state champions for my soccer team. I also have a job. My essay is very good, I wrote it on how having an autistic brother has modeled me and turned me into the person I am today. I play soccer with autistic kids for community service. In my guidance letter of rec, it is filled with having an autistic brother, my dad being disabled, and my mom being diagnosed with breast cancer during my junior year of high school. Also in the personal statement essay for maryland I wrote about my mom having breast cancer and taking care of my family. So like i said before, I know my grades are a little lower than what they expect but I am very well rounded everywhere else. What does everyone think?
