“Congratulations! I am pleased to offer you admission to the University of Maryland (UMD) and to the The First-Year Innovation & Research Experience (FIRE) for Fall 2017. You were selected from among a highly talented group of applicants.”
Got this but nothing about Honors/Scholars. What is this program, and is it more/less selective than Honors/Scholars?
@extratang Is this it?
At UMD, you will join a community of scholars and leaders—students, faculty and alumni whose successes have had profound effects on our world. Our proximity to Washington, D.C. offers an unbeatable location for participation in internships, research, and cultural programs.
S got into UMD and Scholars but not engineering. Does anyone know the details about gatewaying in from letters and sciences? It’s just one semester right? Can S still take intro eng classes? Thanks
Well…speechless. Applicant from W school in mont. county, denied with 4.16 weighted gpa, 3.7 uw, indifficult AP. Classes (ap calc bc, AP bio, AP chem) 29 act, all honors and AP. Not offered freshmen connection. HIs two older brothers were offered admission, one with only 3.75 weighted gpa in easier classes. He was offered merit scholarships to out of state.
@EngineeringDad7777 - Your son can register for the engineering gateway courses first semester. They are actually the exact same courses that the direct admit engineering students take. When he completes those, he can apply for an Internal Transfer into Engineering. As far as I know, transfers into Engineering are NOT competitive and acceptance is automatic once the requirements are met
@YoohooAddict It will say “Congratulations! I am pleased to offer you admission to the University of Maryland (UMD) and to College Park Scholars for the Fall 2017 semester.”
@Wschoolmcounty you made me feel better by sharing that info. I anticipated my S’s non-admittance, was hoping a big maybe for FC but seeing those stats rejected outrightly? wow.
