University of Maryland-College Park Class of 2021 Discussion

It says limited space? You can take classes on campus as an extended student…

D17 was accepted OOS in Aerospace Engineering with Honors. ACT 34 (36 superscored) and GPA around 4.4 weighted.

@nyann1127 - Look at my post above yours. FC aloows you to start in the Fall, just like everyone else. Live in a dorm and have a meal plan… parties. football games…

@maryversity @SoofDad and anyone else who doubted the info from admissions officers… just letting you know they came out right on the dot @ 4:45:00 PM :stuck_out_tongue:

34 ACT, val at in-state high school and I only got scholars :-S I’m thinking of appealing since I really want Honors… anyone else???

I’m also going to look into appealing, 33 superscore ACT OOS, NASA intern for 3 years, multiple publications, 3.84 GPA. Was really hoping to get into the Honors so I could go into the ACES living learning program. ACES was the reason why I applied to UMD and what made it my top choice, so I’m hoping I’ll have another chance at it.

Smith School of Business, scholars program. 30 ACT 3.79 UW.

@nyann1127 most students who are offered spring admission are given the option to attend Freshman Connection through the office of extended studies.
this is where it says it in the letter: We encourage you to consider alternate plans for the fall semester. One option is taking courses at UMD in the fall through our Freshmen Connection program.
Basically, for the first semester, you take general education courses (like freshman English) with the other FC students. These classes do not start until after 3:00pm. You can also take courses in your intended major (although I’m not exactly sure how this works and if these courses are also after 3pm (If anyone knows, please share).
After first semester freshman year, you are a "regular UMD student.

Freshman Connection is great. My daughter just finished her fall semester. She loved it and wished she could have the same great schedule as last semester. If you have any questions let me know.

what would you do if you’re letters and science?

I got in my CS major as well as to the FIRE program. What’s the difference between Fire, Honors, and Scholars? How do you even know if you made honors or scholars anyway?

does anyone have an idea when the next wave will be? I still haven’t gotten mine back

Thanks for the info! We will look further into it! He’s already been accepted at Delaware, James madison, penn state and a couple others so not sure where he’s going to end up yet!

A few things about FC

  1. It is about 3K cheaper
  2. No classes before 3pm and usually no Friday class
    3.small classes
  3. Everyone on my daughter’s floor is in FC
  4. Dinning hall in area is open until 12am
  5. My daughter was able to get all the classes she needed for her LEP
The only negative thing I read was FC students go last for scheduling but my daughter got everything she wanted.

I just looked up FIRE - it sounds very different thank Honors or Scholars - http://www.fire.umd.edu/

Directly rejected lmao…
Feel somewhat worried, but never expect direct one. I mean, it would be freshman connection or deferred…whatever here is my stat
UW GPA 3.72 and W GPA 3.94 (Without Freshman year, it would be around 3.8ish for UW and 4ish for W; I got one F in Freshman in other country school)
New SAT 1410 for single, 1440 for superscore (680, 760)
Act 30

I think almost none EC and bad essays with recommendations would drag me down.
Whatever, Congrats to those who got in!

Yoohoo they tell you in the admission letter whether you got in to the honors or scholars

@NusaDua. I have a few questions about Freshman Connection (I know the basics, but not the details).
1- For a Computer Science major (for example) who would need to take CMSC 131 (the intro class) first semester freshman year, is this course (or any intro to a specific major course) be available to FC students? Would this course also be after 3:00 pm? Are only FC kids in this course, or would regular admit kids be in this too? Are these intro to the major courses hard for FC kids to get into?
2- Do the FC kids feel “different” in any way?
3- What are the perks of FC? Do the kids all know each other? Are the same kids in most of your classes?
Thanks in advance for the info?

@NusaDua I just sent you a PM about Freshman Connection

@NusaDua so after your daughter did this she was able to continue with her intended major? I applied for bioengineering
